Overview

Among the first batch of graduate degree-granting institutions in China, BJUT began its graduate education in 1978. After more than 40 years of exploration, in particular entering the lists of “Project 211” and “Double First-Class”Initiative, BJUT has set up a complete discipline framework and layout for cultivating graduate students. Until now, the authorized units for academic degrees have covered 8 disciplinary fields, including engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law, education and art, in which there are 20 authorized units for doctoral degree of first-level disciplines and 33 authorized units for Master degree of first-level disciplines. The authorized units for professional degrees have covered 18 disciplinary fields, including; resource and environment, civil and hydraulic engineering, electronic information, energy and power, material and chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, traffic engineering, business administration, architecture, urban planning, applied statistics, social work, education, art, public administration, finance, law, and accounting. BJUT now has 469 PhD supervisors, 1,375 Master degree student supervisors, 1,349 full-time doctoral students, 6,519 full-time graduate students and 859 part-time graduate students.

Adhering to the principle of “fostering character and civic virtue, and combining education and research”, BJUT integrates scientific spirit and academic standards into the whole process of cultivating graduate students through large teams, platforms and projects. BJUT always strengthens its practices, establishes a classified cultivation system, and builds the educational pattern and management system for cultivating graduate students of professional degrees to have outstanding features and also meet educational standards of professional degrees. BJUT also makes a lot of efforts to establish the international talents training system and carries out international development strategies to enhance its international influence. Since 1978, BJUT has cultivated 30,000 high-quality doctoral and graduate students who have been highly acclaimed by employers.
