College of Foreign Languages

College of Foreign Languages of Beijing University of Technology was founded in 2003.

College of Foreign Languages consists of the following departments: English Department for the English Major, 2 College English Departments for non-majors. Postgraduate English Department for non-majors, Japanese Department and Korean Department.

Master’s degree program:Foreign Languages and Literatures

Faculty and Staff: 101 faculty and staff make up the workforce, among whom 85 are teachers. There are 4 professors, 25 associate professors, and 56 lecturers. 80% of teachers have master’s or doctoral degrees.

Registered Students: There are about 370 undergraduates and 30 postgraduates registered in College of Foreign Languages.

Research Institution and Key Laboratory: Youth Research Base of English Language and Literature, Modern Digital Language Center.

Major Research Direction: College of Foreign Languages has a team known for qualitative teaching and scientific research. Major research directions include Foreign Language Teaching and Translation, Foreign Language and Literature, and Business Foreign Language. College of Foreign Languages is equipped with advanced teaching facilities such as multi-function & multi-media classroom and modern digital language center. In addition, College of Foreign Languages has a collection of over 20,000 books in Chinese or foreign languages of English, Japanese, Russian, German, French and Korean.

Feature: With multi-language resources of English, Japanese, Korean, French, German and Russian, College of Foreign Languages was founded in March 2003, undertaking the teaching tasks for undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral students. With engineering-oriented historical tradition and adequate teaching facilities, College of Foreign Languages adheres to the principle of “combining liberal arts with science supplemented by liberal arts and engineering” in discipline construction. It intends to train students not only with language skills but also with the knowledge of international business and trade so as to produce more innovative well-rounded talents who are independent in thinking, with good command of foreign languages in basic language skills and translation skills.

The “12th Five-year Plan” of BJUT aims to comprehensively push ahead with the strategic development of “world-renowned, top-notched, research-oriented, advanced level university with its own characteristics”, College of Foreign Languages responds accordingly with new cultivation plan requiring international education background of at least 1 semester for the 3rd-year students. In addition every year College of Foreign Languages will organize short-term overseas exchange programs for best freshman and sophomore students. International Exchanges: For many years College of Foreign Languages has been actively engaged in international cooperations and exchange programs. Some of its teachers have been sent to visit or study at the following countries of Britain, France, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Canada, Australia, Poland and Netherlands. College of Foreign Languages has exchange programs with such universities as Brunel University in the United Kingdom, the University of Maine, the State University of New York at Buffalo, University of Central Missouri, Medicine Hat College, HEC Paris, Nantes University, Aalborg University, University College Dublin, Utrecht University of Applied Sciences, Saga University, Kanazawa University, Niigata University of Management, Shinshu University, Kagawa University, Nagoya University, Tohoku University, Kumamoto University, Inha University, Konkuk University, Ewha Women’s University, Chungju National University, Pknuyong National University, Keimyung University and Changwon National University, etc.
