Doctor Lu Yan from IMPAM in BJUT Awarded the Poster Prize in EAMC-2 International Conference

Recently, Professor Han Xiaodong from the Institute of Microstructure & Property of Advanced Materials (IMPAM) in BJUT took a team of 13 Ph.D. students to participate in the EAMC-2 conference in Japan. During this conference, six presentations were given and nine posters were exhibited. Among them, “Large Plasticity of Body-centered Cubic Single Crystalline Mo in Nano-size at Room Temperature” was awarded the Poster Prize. It was authored by Dr. Lu Yan from the research team of Professor Han Xiaodong. This research received great attention from the conference attendees.

EAMC-2 is a top-level international conference in the field of electron microscopy. Experts, scholars, student representatives and the instrument manufacturing representatives in this field from East Asia such as the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea participated in this conference.

As an important instrument which could change modern lives, the electron microscope could amplify hundreds of times more than traditional optical microscopes. It is very convenient for scientific research because it can observe the atomic structure of substances. At present it is widely used and explored in the fields of material sciences and life sciences.

During this conference frontier reports were centered around the application of transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopes, microbeam analysis, probe microscopy scanning, laser scanning confocal microscopes in the fields of material sciences, life sciences and physics, etc. with hundreds of posters exhibited.

In recent years, IMPAM has paid special attention to the cultivation of students’ innovation abilities and internationalization level. It has increased the input of scientific research funds for Ph.D. students and graduate students every year and has sent them to participate in various electron microscopy conferences both in China and abroad. The goal has been to improve their abilities of scientific research as well as enhance BJUT’s reputation and influence both inside and outside of China.
