Based on the former National Center of Laser Technology (NCLT), Institute of Laser Engineering (ILE) was established at Beijing University of Technology in May 2000. ILE focuses on the major themes of research & development, engineering & applications of advanced laser manufacturing technologies and systems, as well as high-level talents training. The institute is home to graduate academic programs. At present, ILE has one first-class state key discipline of Optical Engineering and one Beijing key discipline of Optics. ILE offers two first-class discipline PhD programs of Optical Engineering and Physics, as well as relevant postdoctoral training programs.
There are 49 staffs including 5 administrators in ILE, among whom 11 are professors, 16 associate professors, 15 lecturers, 3 post-docs. One of our staff is the recipient of “national Thousand Talents Program”, 4 recipients of “Beijing Overseas Talent Students Program”, 5 were awarded the “Trans Century Excellent Talents” by National Ministry of Education and 6 were awarded the “Beijing New Stars of Science and Technology”. The current undergoing projects in our Institute comprise a number of national-wide key research projects, such as “973” projects, “863” projects, National Science Foundation of China projects, as well as a number of key industrial projects. In 2011, ILE was entitled the Center of Laser Applications & Engineering Technology Beijing.
Institute of Laser Engineering admits postgraduates and doctoral students only, now 175 postgraduates and 58 doctoral students are registered.
With the demand of national economic and social development, and the support of the national “211 Project”, ILE has formed three major research directions: Advanced Laser Manufacturing Technology, Energy Optoelectronics Technology and System, and Laser Micro/Nano Processing and Ultrafast Science.
ILE has established global academic exchange and collaborative relationships with various universities, research institutes and industries. ILE has developed technological superiorities and expertise in the fields of laser 3D manufacturing, light weight alloy lase welding, non-mental laser processing, micro/nano optics, high power diode laser technology, high power picoseconds laser technology and high power fiber laser technology. The research achievements have been widely applied in industrial fields.
ILE will continue to take the path of “global cooperation and industrial-academic research”, stand in the forefront of advanced laser manufacturing, refine distinctive characteristics, bring together outstanding research teams, construct discipline platforms and cultivate innovative talents in an effort to enhance the wide applications of advanced laser manufacturing in China and make more contributions to the economic and social development in Beijing and China.
