The Sino-Irish Joint Symposium on Technological Innovation, Higher Education, and Policy Impact for Sustainability was successfully held at BJUT from December 10 to 12. This three-day event aimed to strengthen academic exchanges and promote cooperation in education and research between China and Ireland.
The Symposium featured six keynote presentations, four sub-forums, and two roundtable discussions. Topics included low-carbon action, environmental protection, urban renewal, digital transformation, Sino-Irish international scientific cooperation policies and opportunities, and the challenges and opportunities of Sino-foreign cooperative education.
Experts from various fields shared their academic insights, research findings, and engaged in in-depth discussions.


Following four notable keynote speeches in the opening ceremony, Professor Tasman Crowe, Vice President of University College Dublin, delivered a special report on "University Actions for Sustainability through Education, Research, Innovation, and Campus Operations." He outlined UCD's progress and achievements in advancing sustainable development.
Senior Market Advisor Song Libin from Enterprise Ireland also took the stage to present an overview of the agency's key responsibilities, service offerings, and relevant policy support aimed at promoting sustainable development.




At the roundtable discussion on Policies and Potential for International Joint Research between China and Ireland, Professor Guo Jinxin, Deputy Director of BJUT International Office presented China's policies on international research collaboration. Peter Scott, Senior Manager Research Strategy of UCD Research Administration, provided an overview of the application procedures for research funding programs, including the EU's Horizon Europe program.
At the roundtable discussion on the Opportunities and Challenges of Sino-foreign Joint Education, Liu Yu, Project Director of Cross Border Education Evaluation and Cooperation Department at the China Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center, outlined the guiding principles and procedures for evaluating Sino-foreign cooperative education programs. Xu Yongzan, Party Secretary of Hebei Finance University, shared the results of the "Integration" educational philosophy, which focuses on the practice-based integration of Chinese and foreign educational institutions, fostering interconnection and innovation.
Through the Symposium, scholars from China and Ireland exchanged academic achievements, explored potential avenues for cooperation, and promoted collaborative innovation and high-quality development in sustainable development and related fields. These efforts have played a key role in deepening academic exchange, fostering cooperation between BJUT and UCD in higher education, and enhancing the cultivation of international talent.
