On September 11–12, 2026, the 5th Manganese-Based Battery and Key Materials Innovation Conference, a 2026 Zhongguancun Forum series event, was successfully held at the Beijing Zhongguancun International Technology Trading Center. As an important part of the Beijing University of Technology (BJUT) Science and Technology Work Conference series, the conference was themed “Building Momentum from the ‘Chain’: Manganese Powers the Future.” It focused on the field of advanced batteries and key materials, and featured keynote reports from academicians, newly released innovative achievements, four special forums, and high-end roundtable discussions, in-depth academic exchanges and industry discussions about artificial intelligence, manganese-based materials, manganese-based batteries, and industry-education integration.

Chen Liquan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, known as “The Founding Father of China’s Lithium Battery Industry”, served as the Honorary Chairman of the conference. High-level experts and scholars in related fields from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Royal Society of Canada, the Canadian Academy of Engineering, and other institutions were invited to attend and give presentations. Relevant leaders from institutions including the Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission、the Administrative Commission of Zhongguancun Science Park, the Beijing Economic Technological Development Area Administrative Committee, and the National Green Energy Regional Technology Transfer and Transformation Center for Universities, as well as more than 500 representatives from universities and research institutes, leading enterprises upstream and downstream in the industrial chain, investment institutions, industrial parks, and other sectors, attended the conference.

The conference featured the release of five major manganese-based battery innovation achievements, including Chuangneng Huitong’s new lithium-rich material product, battery material development results, ultra-high-performance manganese-based cathode technology, “Manganese-Based Battery Patents,” and the “Manganese-Based Batteries and Key Materials Industry Development Report (2026).”
The conference comprehensively presented the entire innovation landscape of manganese-based batteries, from basic theory and material synthesis and AI-enabled R&D, to cutting-edge technology exploration and industrial transformation. Universities and research institutes presented high-level original research results; enterprises in the industrial chain shared engineering practice experience; and investment and park institutions discussed pathways for incubating research findings. This fully demonstrated the innovative vitality of multi-party collaboration between industry, academia, research, and application in the manganese-based battery sector. The conference consolidated the domestic industry exchange network in the manganese-based battery field, promoted the aggregation of innovation elements in Beijing, and advanced the deep integration of the innovation, industrial, capital, and talent chains.

Taking this conference as an opportunity, Beijing University of Technology will continue to deepen research on manganese-based batteries, strive to overcome key bottlenecks in industrialization, further engage various entities upstream and downstream in the industrial chain, broaden channels for collaborative innovation, and rely on university-enterprise and university-locality cooperation to accelerate cutting-edge technology iteration and industrial implementation. It will jointly advance the industrialization process of next-generation manganese-based battery production and the strong contribution of manganese-based batteries to the high-quality development of China’s power battery and energy storage industries.
