Cultivation Characteristics

The major adheres to the principles of "fostering character and moral integrity, strengthening foundational knowledge, emphasizing practical training, encouraging innovation, promoting interdisciplinary integration, and engaging globally." In 2022, the Mathematics and Applied Mathematics major was selected as a Beijing Municipal First-Class Undergraduate Major Construction Site. In 2024, this mathematics major ranked among the top 1% globally in the ESI (Essential Science Indicators). The major has established a complete academic pathway, offering undergraduate, Master's, and doctoral education, along with a well-structured training plan that integrates foundational coursework, practical teaching, and international exchange.

The major emphasizes creating a strong academic atmosphere and strengthening students’ research and innovation capabilities throughout the training process. It combines general mathematics education with specialized training, ensuring a solid foundation in core mathematics.

Teaching Resources

The major is supported by several academic and research units, including the Institute of Mathematics, the Institute of Applied Mathematics, the Institute of Computational Mathematics, the Institute of Operations Research and Information Engineering, and the Center for Mathematics Education. The mathematics major benefits from an environment well-equipped with software and hardware. There is a large mathematics laboratory with over 140 high-performance computers, multiple servers, multimedia presentation systems, and a variety of mathematics and computational software. The major offers a first-level discipline doctoral program in mathematics, a first-level discipline Master’s degree program in mathematics, and a first-level discipline postdoctoral research station.
