Beijing Municipal-Level First-Class Undergraduate Major Construction Point


Program Highlights

Heritage and Excellence. Established in 1979, this major is one of the earliest in China to offer and dedicated to product design education. It has been designeated a Beijing Municipal-Level First-Class Undergraduate Major Construction Point and recognized by TIA as one of the "Top Ten Industrial Design Teaching Institutions" Outstanding Faculty and Strong Achievements. The teaching team includes recipients of national honors such as 'Top Ten Outstanding Chinese Industrial Designers' and the Dragon Design Foundation Award. Faculty and students have repeatedly won internationally and nationally acclaimed awards, including the iF Design Award and the Red Star Design Award.

Diverse Curriculum with Defined Tracks.  The major offers slearly structured tracks, including smart electronic products, furniture and home design, vehicle design, and cultural and creative product design. The curriculum integrates traditional culture with contemporary design, and places a strong emphasis on cultivating innovation.

Practice- Led Learning and Industry Partnerships. Through collaborations with leading companies such as Lenovo, Xiaomi, and Nissan, the major enhances strengthens practical training and project-based learning. Over 40% of graduates pursue further study at top institutions such as the Royal College of Art and the Rhode Island School of Design.

Excellent Career Prospects. Graduates are employed by renowned organizations including Xiaomi, Huawei, and the National Museum of China, contributing across technological innovation, cultural heritage, and fashion and the arts.

Teaching Resources

The major has made significant achievements in its development. It is equipped with multiple design studios, metalworking and woodworking workshops, as well as advanced facilities including CNC machining centers, spray booths, laser engraving machines, and 3D printers. These resources enable the creation of a wide variety of prototypes and models, providing students with extensive hands-on practice opportunities. After years of development, the major has been recognized by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission as a Beijing Municipal- Level First-Class Undergraduate Major Construction Point, reflecting its strengths in both teaching quality and research capacity. In addition, the major has established off-campus training bases in collaboration with numerous leading enterprises, further enhancing students’ practical skills and employability.
