University of Nottingham Delegation Visits BJUT

On September 2, a goup of six delegation from University of Nottingham led by Professor Meng Xiaolin, Director of the Sino-UK Geospatial Engineering Centre, , and Professor John Owen, former head of Department of Civil Engineering paid a visit to BJUT. President and Deputy CPC Committee Secretary Liu Gonghui met with the delegation on behalf of BJUT, along with Vice President Wu Bin and heads of the International Office, Academic Affairs Office, and College of Architecture and Civil Engineering.

President Liu Gonghui extended warmest welcome to the UoN delegation and introduced the latest progress of BJUT in the fields of internationalization and “Double First-Class” Construction Plan. Reflecting on the time since BJUT and UoN established their partnership in early 2018, President Liu Gonghui noted that both sides have seen fruitful results in talent cultivation, teacher exchange and much more, and further expressed hope that the visit will promote further cooperation in “first-class disciplines”. He also asked Professor Meng to kindly send his regards to Vice-Chancellor Shearer West and her colleagues.

Professor Meng Xiaolin expressed his heartfelt thanks to the hospitality of BJUT, noting that the two universities had signed a number of agreements for pragmatic cooperation including the “Study Abroad Program Funded byv BMEC. In October, BJUT will send a group of teachers to Nottingham for training, for which UoN has made detailed curriculum. Professor Meng looked forward to deeper research cooperation between professors of the two universities. He hoped that they could apply for and undertake major international research projects together.

The delegation then held academic exchanges and discussions with professors in the College of Architecture and Civil Engineering, developing a better understanding of each other’s research interests, thus establishing an important foundation for further academic cooperation. The delegation also met with 2019 Civil Engineering students enrolled in Study Abroad Program with the University of Nottingham, who arrived on campus before the new semester begins. The delegation gave an introduction to UoN, its disciplines, admission requirements, programs, and campus life, helping the students set their goals and adapt to new environment.
