On the morning of February 11, Xie Hui, Party Secretary of Beijing University of Technology (BJUT) hosted the fifth plenary meeting of the leading group for the prevention and control of COVID-19. He stressed the importance of studying and implementing the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s speech when he inspected the COVID-19 prevention and control work in Beijing and further studied on BJUT’s plans for prevention and control of the epidemic.

The video conference took place at a main venue and was also live-streamed. At the main venue, there were vacant seats between each two participants. Moreover, everyone wore a mask throughout the meeting. Others participated in the meeting in their offices or from home via video call.

The meeting conveyed the spirit of the video conference concerning the education system in Beijing on the prevention and control of the coronavirus epidemic, reviewed and approved the budgets of the working groups, discussed how to provide specialized insurance against the epidemic for front-line staff, and reviewed and coordinated the problems and difficulties faced by each working group.

Liu Gonghui, Deputy Party Secretary and President of BJUT requested that the university should strictly implement the “five musts” proposed by the Ministry of Education; control of campus must accord with directives of Beijing Municipal Education Commission and the Education Work Committee of Beijing Municipal CPC Committee; develop plans for the commencement of school, confirm the implementation of each course, ensure that demonstrations and course trials are completed; ensure timely resolution of problems; make detailed plans to ensure and facilitate the graduation and job searches of senior students; develop plans for the transition period after school starts; protect the safety and well-being of faculty and students and ensure the basic operation of the university; confront crucial scientific issues concerning the prevention and control of the epidemic; draw on the advantages of the university to promote discipline construction, discipline assessment, and the preparation of 14th Five-Year Plan.

In his summary, Party Secretary Xie Hui noted that on the afternoon of February 10, a crucial time for the prevention and control of the coronavirus epidemic, General Secretary Xi Jinping inspected Beijing’s epidemic prevention and control work, which greatly encouraged the Chinese people. All faculty and staff of BJUT should study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s speech during his inspection and strengthen confidence in the victory against COVID-19. We should coordinate data statistics, campus management, return of faculty and staff, control of certain campus buildings, dorm-based concentrated quarantine, supplies purchase and reserve, preparation for the start of school, filing and confidentiality of relevant materials and all other tasks in BJUT’s annual plan and public opinion guidance.

Secretary Xie Hui stressed that CPC organizations at all levels should play a solid role. CPC members that assume leading positions should take the lead. Functional departments of the university should implement the plans at faculty/college level to ensure that the thought and actions are consistent. We should care for all faculty and staff, especially those that work in the front-line and provide service and psychological counseling. Work hard to ensure the precision of work and provide a solid basis for decision-making.

All university leaders and all members of the leading group for the prevention and control of COVID-19 participated in the meeting.
