The Inauguration Ceremony for the Huairou Science and Education Integration Base of BJUT and the Opening Ceremony of the First Beijing Interdisciplinary Science Conference have been held

On August 19th, the inauguration ceremony for the Huairou Science and Education Integration Base of Beijing University of Technology (BJUT) and the opening ceremony of the First Beijing Interdisciplinary Science Conference were held.

The event was attended by seven academicians from different disciplines, officials from relevant municipal government departments, leaders from BBMG Corporation, leaders from the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, leaders from BJUT, and representatives of faculty members and students.

Jiang Zeting, Secretary of CPC BJUT Committee, pointed out that the University has consistently adhered to its original mission of "Serving the Capital City and the Country with Science and Technology", and that the University also regards the integration of industry and education, as well as the integration of science and education, as necessary paths to achieve high-quality development. He stated that BJUT continues to adhere to the task of developing itself into a world-class university. The construction of the Huairou Science and Education Integration Base of BJUT is an integral part of this effort. It is hoped that by using this new base, the further integration of science and education will lead to new and greater contributions to the development of the capital city in the new era.

Nie Zuoren, President of BJUT, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Director of the Expert Guidance Committee of the Beijing Interdisciplinary Science Society, presided over the inauguration ceremony. He stated that BJUT will focus on the goal of building itself into a high-level research orientated university. Taking the opportunity the new base offers, and by hosting the first Beijing Interdisciplinary Science Conference, the University will strive to build a first-class university deeply rooted in Beijing with the capital city's distinct characteristics.

Several other attendees delivered individual speeches, including Jiang Yingwu, Chairman of Beijing BBMG Corporation; Yu Qingfeng, District Mayor of Huairou District, and Director of the Administrative Committee of Huairou Science City; Zhou Ji, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chairman of the Beijing Interdisciplinary Science Society, and Professor of Tsinghua University; and Cui Xinjian, Member and Deputy Secretary-General of the 16th Beijing Municipal People's Congress Standing Committee.

During the ceremony, the participating leaders and guests jointly launched the construction of the "Two Institutes and One Park" of the Huairou Science and Education Integration Base of BJUT as well as initiating the four specialized committees of the Beijing Interdisciplinary Science Society. They also officially opened this first Beijing Interdisciplinary Science Conference.

The Huairou Science and Education Integration Base of BJUT is an important way for the University to thoroughly implement the deployment of the 20th CPC National Congress's initiative on the integrated development of education, science and technology, and talent, to serve the national "dual-carbon" strategy, and to strengthen basic research. This will also help the University's practice of deepening the outcomes of themed education, and the University's integrating and serving the development of Beijing in the new era. It will become a new model for the integration of industry, education, and research between the University and the capital city.

In the future, relying on the Huairou Science City, the base will collaborate with BBMG Corporation, the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and other organizations, to build BJUT's "Two Institutes and One Park" (namely, the Huairou Base of the Institute of Material Science Research, the BBMG Base of the College of Carbon Neutrality Future Technology, and the Huairou Park of the National University Science and Technology Park of BJUT). Together with other cooperating organizations, it will make use of new and powerful innovations, gather top scholars and teams in fields of basic research. It will also focus on the specific needs of material science and the "dual-carbon" strategy, jointly exploring future technologies and developments in industry. In addition, it will jointly build basic research centers, the Fourth Generation Synchronous Photon Source Test Line Station, and other large scientific facilities, with the Institute of High Energy Physics and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It will jointly undertake major national strategic scientific and technological tasks, and strive to become a source of original innovation, a source of power for basic research, an incubator for innovative talents, and to act as fertile new ground for the application of new discoveries.

From August 18th to 21st, the First Interdisciplinary Science Conference jointly organized by Beijing University of Technology, Tsinghua University, Beijing Institute of Technology, and Beijing Union University, was held with the theme of "A New Era of Interdisciplinary Science". The conference invited many well-known academicians and experts from interdisciplinary fields across China, as well as major universities and industry pioneers, for on-site participation. It focused on national strategies, cutting-edge technologies, and interdisciplinary science to conduct in-depth academic exchanges and technical discussions.
