The ceremony of 2019 Beijing Science and Technology Award was held on Sep 10, 2020. Eight of BJUT research achievements have received the award, among which two, respectively led by Prof. CHENG Shuiyuan and Prof. CUI Suping, have won the First Prize of Beijing Science and Technology Progress Awards.
The achievement of “Research on Technical System of Air Pollution Optimal Control and Demonstration Application in Beijing and Surrounding Areas", by Prof. CHENG Shuiyuan from the Faculty of Environment and Life, falls within the scope of the Air Pollution Prevention and Control Plan. To tackle the problem of optimal prevention and control of air pollution, Prof. CHENG’s team has established a technical system of air pollution optimal control that is suitable for China through more than ten years of hard work. The research findings have been successfully applied to the prevention and control of air pollution in Beijing together with surrounding areas and even the whole country, providing significant scientific and technological support for formulating Beijing’s Clean Air Action Plan, improving the capital's air quality, and formulating air quality management plan for major national events, such as the APEC meetings.
The achievement of “Urban Cement with Low Environmental Impact and Key Manufacture Methods and Application”, made by Prof. CUI Suping’s team from the Faculty of Materials and Manufacturing, falls within the category of Inorganic Non-Metallic Materials. Aiming at conquering the key challenges in the green transformation of cement production, Prof. CUI’s team has developed a complete set of technologies for designing and manufacturing urban cement with low environmental impact by industry-university-research institute collaboration for over 10 years. The research findings support 8 Association Standards in the field of building materials including the first batch of technical specifications of lifecycle assessment, and have been applied to green factory evaluation, low-carbon product certification, product carbon footprint certification, and Type III environmental declaration for over 260 enterprises in the building materials industry. Cement products with low environmental impact are widely used in the construction of key projects, such as Beijing Daxing International Airport, Beijing Tongzhou subcenter, Xiong'an New Area, and 2022 Winter Olympics projects, generating remarkable economic and social benefit.
