The Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission Project of Research on Engineering Prototype of 3D Printing Tumor Medical Template Modeling and Testing Equipment Undertaken by BJUT has been accepted smoothly

In the Afternoon of March 21st, 2016, the Acceptance Conference of Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing) Scientific and Technological Innovation and Industrial Cultivation Special Project–Engineering Prototype of 3D Printing Tumor Medical Template Modeling and Testing Equipment was held in room B207 in the Institute of Laser Engineering, BJUT, presided over by Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission. During the Conference, 5 experts (Peng Xiaorun, Senior engineer of Beijing Mechanical and Electrical Holding co., LTD; Prof. Tang Haibo of Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics; Zhang Yongzhong, Senior engineer of Beijing General Research Institute of Nonferrous Metals; Yang Junhong, Senior engineer of Beijing Guoke Century Laser Technology co., LTD; Prof. Zhang Hongbing of Basic Medical Institute  of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences) reviewed and assesses this project. Mr. Gao Qian, deputy Director of Beijing Productivity Center and Prof. Jiang Yijian, Vice President of BJUT attended this Conference.

Prof. Chen Jimin, the director of Beijing Digital Medical 3D Printing Engineering and Technology Research Center, reported the project from 7 aspects including its background, evaluation criteria, implementation process, contents, experience and lessons, benefit analysis and follow-up work plan. After listening to the report, experts all agreed that this novel treatment of maxillofacial tumors could help implant particles rapidly and precisely by using 3D Printing technology and achieve better effect.

During the process of this project, medical license of maxillofacial tumors target treatment template was obtained, and maxillofacial tumors target treatment plan and 3D Printing Service were carried out. Project team also developed the treatment plan and finished the template design, 3D Printing and effect evaluation tools. They made a breakthrough in some core technologies like efficient molding and quality detection and developed 3D rapid printing device and template detection device. They also applied patents for technologies and works and established 3D printing service platform, which was really a great progress.

During the conference, experts and leaders visited the Beijing Digital Medical 3D Printing Engineering Technology Research Center in our university and reviewed the criteria of devices one by one. At last, they spoke highly of the construction of this center and 3D printing devices here, and they all approved the acceptance of this project and believed that it will contribute to the healthy development of our digital medical industrial chain in 3D printing tools and software, devices, materials and service.
