BJUT Engaged Roderick Gow, the Academician of Royal Irish Academy of Science, as Visiting Professor

On April 13th, BJUT engaged Roderick Gow, the Academician of Royal Irish Academy of Science, as the visiting professor and undertook the teaching work of some basic courses (especially mathematics) in Beijing-Dublin International College. The ceremony was presided over by Mr. Qiao Junfei, the Director of BJUT Department of Personnel, with attendees including Mr. Wu Bin (BJUT Vice President), Mr. Guo Fu (Director of BJUT Office of Teaching Affairs) and Mr. Liu Zhongliang (Dean of Beijing-Dublin International College).

Prof. Roderick Gow said it was a great honor for him to join BJUT. He expressed his thankfulness for the help and supports provided by the staff of BDIC and he also acknowledged the learning ability and performance of BDIC students. He thought BDIC was a great platform, by which the cooperation and international talents cultivation between BJUT and UCD (University College Dublin) would make further developments.During the ceremony, Mr. Wu Bin delivered a welcoming speech and awarded a certificate to Prof. Roderick Gow. He said, Beijing-Dublin International College (BDIC) displayed the internationalization of BJUT education. Having been established for four years, BDIC had made a number of achievements in all aspects of work. He emphasized that the coming of Prof. Roderick Gow had significant meaning in the development of teaching and scientific research of mathematics and physics in BDIC. Moreover, it also helps the cultivation of international talents in BJUT. At last, Mr. Wu expressed his wishes that BJUT and Prof. Roderick Gow would strengthen their cooperation in academic exchanges and scientific research for mutual developments.

Brief Introduction of Roderick Gow:

Prof. Roderick Gow graduated from University of Cambridge. In 1973, he, as assistant researcher, began his teaching and research work in Carleton University. Later, he went to Trinity College, working as a lecturer. Then, he worked as a visiting professor in University of Wisconsin-Madison and as a lecturer in UCD. He became a professor in 2006.

His research area focuses on linear algebra. He has published a number of papers in international authoritative journals and published a book Representation Theory in Arbitrary Characteristic together with other scientists. With great contributions in the area of linear algebra, he was elected as an academician of Royal Irish Academy of Science in 1997.
