Beijing University of Technology Joins Beijing-Hong Kong University Alliance

Beijing University of Technology and 11 other Beijing universities formed the University Alliance with 6 Hong Kong universities on April 13th. Chen Baosheng, the Minister of Education, attended the founding ceremony. The Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Academician Tan Tieniu, the Director of the Beijing Municipal Education Committee Liu Yuhui, the Director of Education Bureau of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and representatives of the Beijing-Hong Kong Alliance Universities jointly attended the ceremony. Xie Hui, Secretary of the Party Committee of BJUT, represented the university to sign the letter of intent at the league joining ceremony.

The Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Academician Tan Tieniu, stated that the alliance could contribute to integrating Hong Kong into the overall national development in response to the national ‘Belt and Road’ initiative. Both Liu Yuhui, the Director of the Beijing Municipal Education Committee, and Yang Runxiong, the Director of the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, expressed support for strengthening cooperation between Beijing and Hong Kong universities. It is expected that the ‘Beijing-Hong Kong University Alliance’ will be mutually beneficial and a win-win initiative through the integration of Beijing-Hong Kong elite universities, and utilizing the talent cultivation and scientific research of member universities.

Peking University, Renmin University of China, Tsinghua University, Beijing Normal University, Beihang University, Beijing Institute of Technology, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing University of Technology, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Capital Normal University, Capital Medical University, Capital University of Economics and Business, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, and Education University of Hong Kong University jointly initiated the voluntary and non-profit Beijing-Hong Kong University Alliance with Peking University and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology as the leading units in Beijing and Hong Kong respectively. The forms of cooperation include, but are not limited to, talent cultivation, enrolment and employment, scientific research, collaborative innovation, policy consultation and so on. The ‘Beijing-Hong Kong University Alliance’ is committed to further deepening the exchange and cooperation in talent cultivation and scientific research, enhancing mutual cooperation, utilizing education resources, promoting the common development of higher education in order to better contribute to the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative and the development of Beijing and Hong Kong. BJUT will take this opportunity to expand and strengthen exchanges and cooperation with member universities within the alliance.
