Delegation of Anders Karlsson, Vice President of Elsevier Global Academic Relations, Visited Beijing University of Technology

On September 18th, Anders Karlsson, Vice President of Elsevier Global Academic Relations, and another four people visited the school. Liu Gonghui, Deputy Secretary of the school party committee and President, met with the delegation on behalf of the school, accompanied by the Vice President Wu Bin and the relevant persons in charge of the office of first-class discipline construction, the Institute of Science and Technology Development, International Exchange and Cooperation Office and the library.

The President Liu Gonghui extended a warm welcome to the delegation of Anders Karlsson. He comprehensively introduced the status quo of Beijing University of Technology in terms of talent cultivation, international development and scientific research, and highlighted the performance of the school in the world’s major academic ranking lists in recent years and the analysis and measures taken by the school for these international rankings. The President Liu Gonghui expressed his hope to further strengthen cooperation with international organizations such as Elsevier and improve the data collection, statistics and analysis of the school in various fields and dimensions, so as to formulate relevant reform and development strategies in a more targeted manner and promote the “World-class Universities and World-class Disciplines” construction of the school.

The Vice President Karlsson expressed its gratitude for the warm reception of Beijing University of Technology. He gave a brief introduction to the basic information of Elsevier, including its business scope, core products, development strategy and its cooperation with world university rankings and assessment agencies such as QS and “The Times”. He gave a detailed introduction and practical demonstration of SciVal, the main scientific research data analysis tool of Elsevier, and focused on the potential benefits that the analysis tool can bring to Beijing University of Technology in terms of discipline development, talent introduction and international cooperation.

The Vice President Wu Bin said that he wishes Beijing University of Technology to communicate more with Elsevier and also wishes Elsevier to provide more detailed and professional solutions according to the actual situation and needs of Beijing University of Technology.

The two sides also conducted in-depth discussions on how to use the big data to serve the school development, how to manage and use SciVal scientific research analysis tool, and how to optimize and improve the effectiveness and timeliness of the analysis results.
