On the afternoon of October 20th, Alan Wall, Deputy Secretary General of Department of Education and Skills (Ireland), and Eoin O’Leary, Irish Ambassador to China, visited Beijing University of Technology. The President Liu Gonghui and the Vice President Wu Bin cordially met with the Deputy Secretary General Alan Wall delegation and held a meeting, attended by the relevant persons in charge of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office, Office of Science and Technology Development and Beijing-Dublin International College at BJUT, and some professor representatives. The meeting was presided over by the Vice President Wu Bin.
The President Liu Gonghui extended a warm welcome to the Deputy Secretary General Alan Wall and the Ambassador Eoin O’Leary on behalf of the school. He pointed out that Beijing University of Technology has established exchanges and cooperation with many universities in Ireland. Beijing-Dublin International College at BJUT, as a model of cooperation between China and Ireland in higher education, has not only cultivated a group of high-quality innovative talents with international vision and international competitiveness, but also continuously deepened and enriched the exchanges and cooperation between the two universities in terms of teacher exchanges and scientific research cooperation. In the context of building world-class universities and world-class disciplines, Beijing University of Technology and University College Dublin signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on world-class disciplines in May this year, laying an important foundation for deepening the multi-level cooperation between two sides in the preponderant disciplines and world-class disciplines, which opened a new chapter in the common development of both sides.
The Deputy Secretary General Alan Wall expressed his gratitude for the warm reception of the school and congratulations on the sincere cooperation between the two universities and the achievements in recent years. He pointed out that Beijing-Dublin International College at BJUT is a demonstrative result of in-depth cooperation between China and Ireland higher educational institution in such aspects as quality teaching, academic resources, talents and Chinese and Western advanced education systems, and the in-depth cooperation between professors of the two universities in high-level talents training and scientific research has promoted the development both in scope and in depth of exchanges and cooperation of both sides. He said that Department of Education and Skills (Ireland) will continue to promote the all-round exchanges and cooperation between Irish universities and Chinese universities, especially with Beijing University of Technology.
At the Teacher Research Symposium, Han Xiaodong, Executive Vice President of Office of Science and Technology Development, introduced the overall situation of the school’s scientific research. Prof. Wang Dayong from the College of Applied Science, Prof. He Jingsha from the Department of Informatics and Prof. Wu Lifang from the Department of Informatics shared the scientific research cooperation with University College Dublin as professor representatives.
The student representatives of Beijing-Dublin International College at BJUT and the student representatives of University College Dublin, who study at Beijing University of Technology, exchanged views with the Deputy Secretary General Alan Wall delegation and shared their experiences and gains in exchange learning at reciprocal university. The Ambassador Li Xiuwen said at the symposium that he was very happy to meet with the students and was very satisfied with the performance of everyone. He spoke highly of the results of the cooperation between the two universities and hoped that both sides can further strengthen the intention and specific measures for deepening cooperation.
The delegation also visited Beijing-Dublin International College at BJUT and enjoyed the picture exhibition of the achievements of Beijing-Dublin International College at BJUT in terms of talent cultivation, education and teaching and teaching staff.
