2018 Annual Council of the Opole Confucius Institute of Beijing University of Technology

The annual council of the Opole University Confucius Institute, sponsored by Beijing University of Technology was held in BJUT on December 6. Marek Tukiendorf, President of Opole University of Technology, and Liu Gonghui, President of BJUT and Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee of BJUT, were present at the council. Members of the Council of Confucius Institutes of the two universities attended the meeting.

President Liu expressed a warm welcome to President Tukiendorf and his delegation, and thanked him for attending the Annual Council of Confucius Institutes and the first “Belt and Road” Sino-Polish University Consortium Art Festival and Art & Design Competition. He fully affirmed the achievements of the Opole University Confucius Institute in Chinese language teaching and cultural transmission, as well as its role in the communication and cooperation in higher education between China and Poland. He expressed the expectation that the Confucius Institute would further expand its influence, help Consortium members set up Confucius classrooms, implement the “Belt and Road” initiative, and promote communication between the Chinese and Polish peoples.

President Tukiendorf expressed his sincere thanks to President Liu for his warm welcome, and congratulated him on the first Annual Council of Confucius Institutes and the holding of the First Art Festival and Art & Design Competition of the Consortium. He said that the Opole University Confucius Institute, as one of the most influential Chinese teaching and cultural transmission bases in Poland, was a messenger for the in-depth communication of education, economy and culture between China and Poland. Opole University of Technology would continue to support the construction of Confucius Institutes, promote the development of the Sino-Polish Consortium and deepen exchanges and cooperation in higher education between the two countries.

  • The meeting heard the report of Liang Yansong, the Chinese President of the Opole University Confucius Institute, on the work of teaching and cultural activities in 2018 and the report of Ewa Jakuczek, Polish President of the Opole UniversityConfucius Institute, on the 2018 financials. Participants discussed four principle issues:.
  • Future work plans of theConfucius Institute,
  • Confucius classroom construction
  • The first international academic conference of the Sino-Polish University Consortium
  • The second Sino-Polish University Consortium arts & design competition

They also exchanged ideas on the summer exchange program between the two universities.

The Opole University Confucius Institute, jointly constructed by Beijing University of Technology and Opole University of Technology of Poland, was formally established on October 8, 2008. It was  the first Confucius institute jointly established by BJUT and a foreign university. In 2018, the Opole University Confucius Institute opened 14 teaching centers in Opole and Kedzierzyn-Kozle, with a total of 382 students.
