On May 16, the Beijing Education Commission officially announced the list of advanced and cutting-edge disciplines in Beijing universities. The four disciplines of Mechanical Engineering, Control Science and Engineering, Optical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering of Beijing University of Technology were selected.

The main goal of the advanced and cutting-edge disciplines in Beijing is to select a group of “advanced and cutting-edge” disciplines for Beijing universities to focus on construction, and strive to promote the adjustment and optimization of the discipline layout structure of Beijing universities after two to three cycles of construction, and promote the further integration of disciplines, so as to form a number of first-class international or domestic disciplines with superior characteristics and emerging frontier interdisciplinary subjects. A total of 99 disciplines from 53 universities in Beijing were selected, of which 28 were co-constructed (The three disciplines of Mechanical Engineering, Control Science and Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering of Beijing University of Technology are co-constructed with Tsinghua University and Beijing University of Science and Technology respectively). The Beijing Education Commission will conduct an annual assessment of selected disciplines and conduct phased dynamic adjustments. The annual performance of the assessment will be linked to the support of the next year. The assessment of selected disciplines takes the cultivation of talents as the core, scientific research is the key, so as to encourage to highlight the discipline characteristics, and to better serve the strategic positioning of “four centers”in Beijing and the construction of a world-class harmonious and livable city.
