On December 30, 2019,the Ministry of Education released a selected list of the first batch of first-class undergraduate major “Double Million Plan”construction sites.All the11 majors recommended byBeijing University of Technology (BJUT) wereannounced in the national first-class undergraduate major construction sites in 2019, including Sociology,Mechanical Engineering,Materials Science and Engineering,Electronic Science and Technology,Automation,Computer Science and Technology,Software Engineering,Civil Engineering,Traffic Engineering,Environm ental Engineering, and Architecture. Another four majors were listed in the“first-class undergraduate major construction projects of institutions of higher education inBeijing”, which include Mechanical Engineering,Electronic Science and Technology,Materials Science and Engineering, and Civil Engineering.
The first-class undergraduate major construction“Double Million Plan”is an important measure adopted by the Ministry of Educationto revitalize undergraduate education,strengthen the capacity of universities intalent cultivation, and realize the connotative development of higher education. In 2019, the Ministry of Educationapproved 4,054 nationalfirst-class undergraduate major constructionsites (1,691 central-level sites and 2,363 region-level sites) and 6,210 provincialfirst-class undergraduate major constructionsites.
BJUT will take this opportunityto uphold the principle of“putting undergraduate educationfirst”and realize the goal of"returning to the common sense, returning to the original duties, returning to the original aspiration, and returning to the dream".The school will make greater efforts to guarantee the construction offirst-class undergraduate majors, advance the connotative and characteristic development of majors, and conduct sustainable and profound educational reform. It will alsoimplement the idea of“student-centered, outcome-based education, and continuous quality improvement,”ensuring that the listed majors can be certifiedat the end of the construction periodto write a new chapter for building a high-level research university.
