On March 3, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) released the tenth edition of the World University Rankings by Subject which includes 48 disciplines grouped into five broad subject areas. 1,368 universities in 83 countries and regions worldwide were evaluated. Chinese universities, in particular, showed noteworthy performance, with a total of 1,066 disciplines from 118 universities selected in to the Global Top 600 (84 in Mainland China, 9 in Hong Kong, 23 in Taiwan, and 2 in Macao, China), and 188 disciplines in the Top 50 globally.
Following the 7 disciplines of Beijing University of Technology (BJUT) ranked among the Top 500 in the QS World University in 2019, the discipline of“Environmental Science”of BJUT made rapid progress in 2020, making it to the Global Top 500 for the first time and ranking 301-350 in the world. Meanwhile, the discipline of “Electrical and Electronic Engineering” rose from 351-400 in 2019 to 301-350. Therefore, BJUT’s disciplines that are ranked among the Global Top 500 increased to eight, namely, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Materials Science, Mathematics, Physics & Astronomy, Engineering and Technology, Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Mechanical and Aeronautical Manufacturing Engineering.
