Recently, Dr. Du Rui, Faculty Post-doctor from the College of Environmental and Energy Engineering of BJUT, was informed that she had been awarded the Humboldt Research Fellowship for Postdoctoral Researchers 2021 by Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. She will carry out collaborative research in Germany next year. Dr. Du Rui becomes the first Ph.D. and Post-doctor to receive the honor in BJUT.
During her doctoral and postdoctoral positions, Du Rui studied under Professor Peng Yongzhen, systematically conducting the scientific research on DEAMOX nitrogen removal process and control strategy. Supported by such national scientific research platforms as “the National Engineering Laboratory of Urban Wastewater Advanced Treatment and Resource Utilization Technologies” and “the Innovation and Talent Recruitment Base of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Environmental Pollution Control”, she achieved innovative research results in advanced nitrogen removal by coupling short-cut denitrification anammox. This funding from Alexander von Humboldt Foundation shows that her research results have been highly recognized by international counterparts, which provides new opportunities for international cooperation and exchanges for environmental science and engineering discipline of BJUT.
Alexander von Humboldt Foundation was established in 1860, achieving a level of global fame. The foundation mainly subsidizes outstanding young scientists and scholars worldwide to carry out international scientific cooperation, whose honorary titles are life-long. The selection on Humboldt scholars is based on a strict selection procedure. About 100 famous scientists of different majors form a search committee to discuss and vote on the shortlisted applicants, and the only criterion followed by them is whether the applicants have prominent academic levels and research capacity. Up till now, there are more than 50 Nobel Prize-winning Humboldt scholars.
