Postgraduates’ thesis defense is a necessary step for graduates to apply for degrees. Amid the period of pandemic prevention and control, all BJUT graduate faculties worked hand in hand to tide over the difficulties. As of June 4, nearly 200 doctoral students and more than 2000 master's students successfully completed their thesis defense online, ensuring the smooth progress of postgraduate graduation during such a special period.

Following the principle of “equal requirements and quality for thesis defense online and offline”, the Graduate School has extensively communicated with relevant university peers and repeatedly discussed and tested the difficulties and key links of thesis defense online. At the end of March, the Graduate School released 8 documents, including the Procedures and Requirements of Postgraduate Thesis Defense of BJUT and the Guide to the Use of Thesis Defense Online, to specify detailed rules on the application, review and announcement, organizing process, filing and submitting of the thesis defense online as it untangled highlight of work for the relevant personnel and provided the online meeting platform and the operation guide of online secret voting.

This postgraduate thesis defense, the university’s first effort in the form of video online, was strongly supported by teachers and students of all faculties (colleges). On-line thesis defense for a degree breaks with tradition and works as a useful attempt to develop a new way of education and teaching through information technology.
