Beijing Artificial Intelligence Institute of BJUT Inaugurated and Established

Beijing Artificial Intelligence Institute of BJUT was inaugurated on October 18, on the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of BJUT. Attendees of the unveiling ceremony included academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, like WU Cheng, SUN Youxian, LIU Yunjie, and DENG Zhonghan; XU Xinchao, Deputy Director of Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission, and experts and scholars from fellow colleges and universities; LIU Gonghui, Deputy Secretary of CPC BJUT Committee and President of the University, QIAO Junfei, Vice President and heads of Beijing Artificial Intelligence Institute and Faculty of Information Technology.

President LIU noted in his speech that BJUT attaches great importance to the development of artificial intelligence and actively responds to the National and Beijing strategic deployment. More specifically, the university adjusts the educational structure, optimizes the discipline layout, improves the curriculum, and actively prepares for the Beijing Artificial Intelligence Institute. He also hoped the Institute would resolutely innovate the artificial intelligence talent training mechanism and work as an academic platform to drive the discipline of information technology strong overall through complementary integration; take issues related to frontier sciences and major national strategic needs as the guidance, and establish an interdisciplinary research platform and team participated by multi-disciplinary forces to make more iconic high-level technological achievements; study forward-looking theory and innovative technology for the sake of Beijing's future development, and provide strong support for smart Beijing, green Beijing, and ecological Beijing.

The Beijing Artificial Intelligence Institute was inaugurated by academician WU Cheng, academician SUN Youxian, academician LIU Yunjie, academician DENG Zhonghan, Deputy Director XU Xinchao, and President LIU Gonghui.

BJUT hired 23 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering to form the Strategic Advisory Committee of the Institute. President LIU presented offers to the members of the Strategic Advisory Committee.

The Institute grew around six disciplines, including control science and engineering, computer science and technology, electronic science and technology, information and communication engineering, software engineering, and cyber space security. Being oriented to "Rooted in Beijing, serving Beijing, lead high-end tech, innovate collaboratively, improve the mechanism, strive for the first-class position", the Beijing Artificial Intelligence Institute focuses on building an internationally competitive platform for talent growth and a powerhouse for innovation-driven development in the capital. It has a Beijing Key Lab of Computational Intelligence and Intelligent Control, a Beijing Key Lab of Multimedia and Intelligent Software Technology, Beijing Lab of Intelligent Environmental Protection, MoE Engineering Center of Intelligent Perception and Automatic Control, all of which focus on machine learning theory and method, machine perception and human-machineinteraction, data mining and automation, the intelligent unmanned system as the major research interest furthermore, the newly-built research center will research basic theory, method innovation and typical demonstration in the fields of intelligent transportation, smart healthcare, intelligent environmental protection and service robots.
