BJUT Won Two Gold Medals in the 12th “Challenge Cup” National Business Plan Competition for College Students

According to the results of the gold medal project of the 12th “Challenge Cup” National Business Plan Competition for College Students announced on December 1, BJUT was awarded two golds, which is the first time for Beijing municipal colleges and universities to win gold at this competition. Following Tsinghua University, Beihang University, and Beijing Institute of Technology, BJUT has won the grand slam of golds in business plan competition, entrepreneurship practice competition, and public welfarestart-upcompetition.

The project "Microway Tech—the Microfluidics-based Real-Time Cancer Detection" won the gold award for technology innovation and future industry section, which was completed by Zhao Siyu and other students from the Faculty of Materials and Manufacturing under the instruction of Prof. Liu Zhaomiao, Associate Prof. Shen Feng, and Associate Prof. Yi Yan. The project developed a real-time microfluidic cancer detection system by combining microfluidic technology that is precise, miniature and integrated and liquid biopsy technology, providing a new approach to innovation in tumor detection technology. Zhao Siyu said, “We couldn’t make it without the professional guidance of Prof. Liu Zhaomiao and her team, the care and assistance from the university’s Youth League Committee and teachers of the Faculty, and even more, the training and support provided by the University! In the future, we will continue to contribute to a healthy China and healthy life for all with the spirit of innovation!”

The project "Grain Harvest—One-Stop Solution Based on Modern Agricultural Facilities" won the gold medal for the rural revitalization and poverty alleviation section. It was completed by Wang Yuchen and other students from the Faculty of Architecture, Civil and Transportation Engineering and guided by Prof. Liu Jianping, Prof. Zhang Jian, Associate Prof. Ji Jingshu, and Prof. Liu Zhaomiao. The project takes advantage of interdisciplinary innovation and research and focuses on facility agriculture with problem and demand as the orientation. It employs four sets of self-developed modern agricultural facility products, including energy storage module with inorganic phase change materials, silicone cotton insulation, basalt fiber composites, and IoT-based agriculture monitoring system, providing agricultural park planning, the policy guidance, agricultural technology advisory guidance, and platform of connection with the third-party sellers. Meanwhile, it also innovates the marketing mode, introduces the mechanism of rural partner, and creates a set of solutions to big agriculture.

“Challenge Cup” National Bussiness Plan Competition for College Students, initiated by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China and the Ministry of Education, is one of the most high-profile national entrepreneurship competitions for domestic college students. More than one million students participated in the “Challenge Cup” competition online this year. Finally, 432 projects (including 420 universities in the mainland and 12 universities in Hong Kong and Macao) were selected for the national final review.

In recent years, BJUT has closely combined its talent cultivation orientation with discipline characteristics while attaching great importance to students' innovation and entrepreneurship. On the new journey of its 60th anniversary, BJUT will further improve the “fund, competition and practice” work system for student extracurricular science and technology innovation and entrepreneurship and create a stronger atmosphere for innovation and entrepreneurship.
