The Ministry of Education announced the accreditation results of the first batch of national first-class under graduate courses recently. Two virtual simulation experiment projects of BJUT were listed among the first batch of national first-class virtual simulation experiment teaching courses: one is the Interactive Virtual Simulation Experiment Project for Pipe Network Design and Commissioning of the Air-conditioning Ventilation System, which is in charged by Prof. Wang Wei from the Faculty of Architecture, Civil and Transportation Engineering, the other is the Typical Mechanical Products Casting Virtual Simulation Project designed by Prof. Liu Zhifeng from the Faculty of Materials and Manufacturing and the latter one was approved as one of the national virtual simulation experiment teaching projectsin 2019. These achievements mark the university's virtual simulation experiment teaching, experimental resources construction, and innovation have reached a new high level.
The Interactive Virtual Simulation Experiment Project for Pipe Network Design and Commissioning of in Air-conditioning Ventilation System can reproduce thereal-world scene of the practical operation of the air-conditioning ventilation system through three-dimensional simulation technology, and create an experimental environment of human-computer interaction, team collaboration, and teacher-student interaction. Through the combined training online and offline, integrated with role play and role shift, the project can realize the training on the whole process of engineering practice from engineering design to operation and commissioning and hence it can improve students' skill to the design and commission large-scale complex pipe network in air-conditioning ventilation system. During the pandemic, more than 11,000 people visited the project online. Apart from meeting the teaching requirements of BJUT, it also provided experiment supports andassistancein the professional course learning to students from Harbin Institute of Technology, Nanjing Normal University, and other universities. The traffic to the experimental space has reached 15,838.
The virtual simulation project of Typical Mechanical Products Casting Targets Typical Mechanical Products, virtually emulate the casting process (including sand casting and lost foam casting), solves the problems of high temperature, high risk, no visual observation, and environmental management in the real-world teaching environment, and cultivates the students' ability to design casting structure and casting process design. In the second semester of the 2019-2020 academic year, the project successfully conducted teaching experiments for four courses and benefited 888 students in 35 classes. The traffic to the experimental space is up to 18,455.
Virtual simulation experiment teaching project is an important indicator of "double first-class" construction in colleges and universities. It is one of the five "golden courses" in China that the Ministry of Education tries to cultivate. It is also an important measure to train students' ability to practice and innovate. In recent years, BJUT attaches great importance to the development of virtual simulation experiment teaching project. It gradually strengthens the construction of sharing platforms and teaching resources in the virtual simulation experiment teaching center tointegrate high-grade experimental teaching resources and improve practice-based teaching.
