The Material Education Forum & the 2020 Working Meeting of the Teaching Steering Committee for Material Programs of Higher Education under the MoE were held in BJUT from December 7 to December 8. Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering including Zuo Tieyong, Zhou Yu, Nie Zuoren, Zhang Lianmeng, academicians of CAS including Tian Yongjun, Zhu Meifang, Liu Changsheng, and national distinguished teachers, such as Zhao Naiqin and Xie Junlin, were present at the meeting. More than 360 material educators from 103 universities in China attended the forum.
At the 2020 Working Meeting of the Teaching Steering Committee for Material Programs of Higher Education under the MoE on the afternoon of December 7, the Secretary-General of the Committee, Prof. Geng Lin, summed up the work of the Committee and reported the first-class discipline evaluation and the textbook preparation for the 14th five-year plan. Prof. Wang Yujin, Deputy Secretary-General, and other professors spoke to the meeting about the investigation and research of experimental practice of materials specialty, application and approval of new engineering projects, application and evaluation of first-class courses, and specialty accreditation.
At the Material Education Forum held on the morning of December 8, academician Zuo Tieyong, famous material scientist, educator, and honorary director of the Academic Committee of BJUT, interacted amicably with the participants. He expected that young materials scholars should continue to enhance materials undergraduates the introductory theory teaching and engineering practice, and have more talks with the industry.
The founding meeting of the Material Speciality Accreditation Committee of China Engineering Education Accreditation Association (CEEAA) & 2020 Working Conference and the Seminar on Textbook Development of Materials Science and Engineering were held on the afternoon of December 8. The participants held extensive discussions on how to improve the quality of undergraduate education of materials programs and build first-class materials specialty and courses for undergraduates.
It was the fourth time since 2017 that BJUT has hosted the form as the vice-chairman of the Chinese Materials Research Society (CMRS) and the vice-chairperson of the Teaching Steering Committee for Material Majors. The forum has played an important role in promoting undergraduate education and teaching reform, and the development of first-class specialty and curriculum in colleges and universities.
