——2021 New Year Message from Xie Hui, Secretary of the CPC Committee of BJUT and Liu Gonghui, President of BJUT

With the beginning of the new year, everything takes on a new look. 2021 has approached when the first morning sunshine in winter fell across the tranquil campus. On behalf of the Party and the Administration Leadership of BJUT, we would like to extend our heartfelt wishes for the new year to all BJUTers globally and those who have given their care and support for the university!

The past 2020 is an extraordinary year for not only the world, China, and Beijing, but also BJUT and every individual. We have jointly coped with the challenges and conjured a progress victory in pandemic prevention and control. Meanwhile, we have balanced and promoted all aspects of economic and social development and made decisive achievements in building a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way. Moreover, we have shared China's wisdom and plan with people all over the world and made positive contributions to building a community of shared future for mankind.

We cried for those who had sacrificed their lives for fighting COVID-19 and those who died of the pandemic; we also rejoiced at witnessing that all 832 poverty-stricken counties were lifted from poverty and absolute poverty would be historically solved.

This year, opportunities came with challenges and tears mingled with laughter - BJUT has always been with you. We fought the pandemic together, celebrated the 60th anniversary together, and strived for the decisive year together. In the 60-year history of BJUT, we wrote a brilliant chapter about 2020.

We are Together — This is the Firm Conviction in the Pandemic Prevention and Control

This year, BJUTers worked together to build a pandemic prevention and control network on campus. We started the longest and largest scale of online teaching since established. We accurately conducted scientific research contributing to pandemic prevention and control as well as economic and social growth. We packed and sent the luggage back home for the students who have graduated but not able to return... Some of us back to work ahead of holiday schedule, to protect the safety of the campus and banished the teachers and students' anxiety with care. Some of us donated fund and materials, sparing no effort in various ways to support the anti-pandemic effort of the alma mater. Some of us sent pandemic protection kits to overseas teachers, students and alumni. And a lot more to be recalled… Every ordinariness yet greatness deserves a hymn and every warmth and sympathy should be remembered. On the journey of joint battle against the pandemic, we are together.

We are Together — This is the Touching Story in the 60th Anniversary

Over the past 60 years, BJUT has pioneered a development path with its own characteristics, with more than 160,000 alumnus. We have always been following the same development direction as the country and the capital while promoting our international influence and core competitiveness. It is our BJUTers, generation after generation together,that saw the achievements exhibition and history exhibition atthe 60th anniversary. Together, we held the Gala Performance and grand laser show for teachers and students. Together, we narrated 60 BJUTers' journey over the past 60 years. Together, we outlined the milestone events in the history of BJUT's development... Every online attention or offline engagement speaks of BJUTer's emotion for their alma mater beyond words that can express, and every regard and wish represents their soulful devotion to BJUT. On the 60th anniversary, we are together.

We are Together — This is the Manifesto of Striving for the Decisive Year

We improved the results of the 6th Education and Teaching Wrap-Up Session and published the 2020 Cultivation Plan for Undergraduates. We deeply implemented the Guidelines of the National Graduate Education Conference, started a new chapter in high-level talent training. We substantively operated the faculty system reform and established the Teacher's College, inaugurating the collaborative education... It is our BJUTers, in different positions of teaching, research and management, that jointly promoted the construction of "Double First-class" with high quality and delivered satisfactory results to the 13th Five-year Plan. Beijing Institute of Artificial Intelligence was inaugurated and founded; Chongqing Research Institute of BJUT settled in Liangjiang New Area; Two scholars were funded by the 2020 National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars; The third innovation research group of National Natural Science Foundation and the first BJUT-led Beijing Lab were approved for construction. The subjects ranked among the 2020 QS World University Rankings by Subjucts increased to 8. The transferred patents ranked 13th among Chinese universities. BJUT ranked among the ARWU World Top 500 for the first time, and short-listed for THE Awards Asia 2020. BJUT students won the first Gold Award in The College Students' Internet+ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. Zhangquan Village, our target of poverty relief project, became increasingly beautiful under the guidance of the two First Secretary... Every achievement deserves our pride, and every breakthrough is even more encouraging. In this decisive year of striving, we are together.

This is the unforgettable 2020 that we have passed together.60 Years of Youth, 60 Years of Brilliance, BJUT and us are always together, uniting as an indomitable force pressing forward.

Dear teachers, students and alumni, 2021 is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, a year of special importance in the process of China's modernization, and a key year for the university to achieve high-quality development. Let's adhere to the motto of "Persistent Striving the Principle, Pursuit of Innovation the Path", and pursue the century-old dream of building a world-class university constantly and realize the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation!
