BJUT Adds 3 New Undergraduate Programs

According to the notification from the Ministry of Education, BJUT has been approved to add three new undergraduate programs: Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, Chemical Biology, and Artificial Intelligence. Up to now, the total number of undergraduate programs in BJUT has reached 70, covering 7 disciplines including engineering, science, management, economics, arts, humanities and law, with the layout of programs becoming more and more comprehensive.

Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering involves multiple disciplines, such as optics, information, physics, and materials, and has a distinctive feature of multi-disciplinary intersection. This program is based on the two national first-level discipline doctoral programs of Optical Engineering and Physics of BJUT, and aims to establish a knowledge system with focus on optoelectronic information and based on multidisciplinary applications.

Chemical Biology is a frontier research field formed by the continuous cross-fusion of chemistry and biology. This program utilizes the theories, research methods and means of chemistry, biology, physics, information science and other related disciplines to explore the cutting-edge research issues such as biology and medicine from the molecular level.

According to the new-generation artificial intelligence development plan of China, Artificial Intelligence meets the major needs in service robots, smart transportation, smart medicine, smart environmental protection and other application fields, and focuses on the basic theory research of artificial intelligence such as intelligent perception, knowledge representation and inference, machine learning, and machine behavior, as well as core key technological innovations such as knowledge graphs, deep learning, and cross-media intelligence.

The addition of the new programs is an important measure taken by BJUT to optimize the layout of programs and disciplines, further promote the construction of "New Engineering", and enhance the capabilities to serve economic and social development. In the next step, BJUT will speed up the establishment of new programs, and improve the professional construction and talent training capabilities.
