BJUT was awarded 2 grand prizes, 3 first prizes, 5 second prizes, and 3 third prizes and won the Award of Excellence and Outstanding Organization Award in the 11th "Challenge Cup" Beijing Undergraduate Extracurricular Science and Technology Works Contest held from May 13 to 16.
The grand-prize-winning works of BJUT has been highly recognized by the judging experts. Under the supervision of Associate Professor Yang Congbin, Professor Zhao Yongsheng and Professor Liu Zhifeng from the Faculty of Materials and Manufacturing, the work "Research and Application of the Key Technology of High-Performance Harmonic Reducer Flexible Gear Tooth Profile" by Ma Honglie, etc., developed the modification technology of tooth profile under different working conditions, extended the service life of the flexible gear and proposed the non-contact detection technology of tooth profile to provide a verification method for the theoretical design with various original designs of tooth profile. Supervised by Professor Hu Jianguo of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Guo Baoluo's work "Buddha-like Mindset: Crisis or Change in Values? — the Discussion Based on the Tracking and Investigation of Chinese University Students" investigated the recently emerging Buddha-like mentality among Chinese young people, put forward the innovative viewpoints and proposed the relevant countermeasures. This work is of positive significance for understanding and guiding the social mentality and values of youth group.
The "Challenge Cup" contest consists of three special race tracks: "Practice of Society Learning", "High-Tech in Olympic Winter Games" and "Challenge Accepted". Of the 46 works in "Practice of Society Learning", BJUT was awarded 4 first prizes, 5 second prizes, and 9 third prizes. Of the 12 works in "High-tech in Olympic Winter Games", BJUT was awarded 2 first prizes, 4 second prizes and 5 third prizes. "Challenge Accepted" is set to serve the demands of government and enterprises, and the establishment of "high-level technological innovation exchange and cooperation platform" in Beijing. On this race track, the government and enterprises drew up the theme based on the actual needs, and the student teams participated in the competition. Of the 7 works in this special competition, BJUT was awarded 1 special prize, 1 second prize and 2 third prizes. The work "Advanced Treatment System of Landfill Leachate with Low C/N Rate Based on Anaerobic-Aerobic-Anoxic Operation" completed by Mao Dongxiao, etc. from the Faculty of Information Technology under the supervision of Peng Yongzhen, CAE Academician, successfully accomplished the task of "New Treatment Technology for Landfill Leachate with Low C/N Rate" released by Beijing Environmental Sanitation Engineering Group Co. Ltd., and awarded the grand prize. During the contest, Zhang Yankun, Deputy Secretary of CPC Beijing Municipal Committee inspected the project.
"Challenge Cup" Beijing Undergraduate Extracurricular Science and Technology Works Contest is known as the "Olympics" of science and technology for Chinese university students. BJUT attaches great importance to the cultivation of the innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities of students, and adheres to the "fund-competition-practice" system composed of "The Spark Fund", "National College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program" and "Dingxin Cup", and has come to the forefront in “Challenge Cup”, China College Students' Entrepreneurship Competition and other contests.
