· BJUT Held Class of 2021 Commencement and Degree-granting Ceremony

On July 13, 2021, Beijing University of Technology (BJUT) held the Class of 2021 Commencement and Degree-granting Ceremony in its Olympic Stadium. The class of 2020 representatives and their parents who were specially invited to make up for the regret brought by the epidemic in 2020.

As the ceremony started, the atmosphere soon got heated by the wonderful performance of the student choir and the marching wind band. Singing the national and the university anthems and flying the national and the university flags, all the faculty, staff and students present were full of excitement.

The lists of graduates and degree recipients from the class of 2021 in the undergraduate and graduate programs were announced respectively. The lists of 100 Best Graduates, Excellent Dissertations, and Excellent Graduates from the class of 2021 in the undergraduate and graduate programs were announced as well. All award-winning graduates were commended.

The winners of “My Favorite Teacher Contest 2021” were presented with awards by BJUT leaders and with flowers by graduate representatives.

With deep gratitude, the representatives of the 2021 graduates presented their alma mater with elaborate gifts. Wang Ruoqi, a 2021 graduate from the undergraduate program of the College of Art and Design, presented a landscape painting, Gutian in Dream. Li Hao, a 2021 graduate from graduate program of the Faculty of Information Technology presented a self-developed high-quality vertical cavity surface emitting laser array chip. In return, the alma mater gave each graduate the special gift, a paper-carved lantern themed at “Young and Lively BJUT”. This three-dimensional paper-cut silhouette displays BJUT’s iconic cultural elements like the Science Building, the Olympic Stadium, and ginkgo leaves.

Wang Guangpu from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and Kong Fanchao from the Faculty of Architecture, Civil and Transportation Engineering made speeches on behalf of the graduates from the undergraduate and graduate programs respectively. The two representatives extended their thanks for the alma mater, recalled the unforgettable moments on campus, shared what they had learned from BJUT, and expressed the best wishes to the alma mater.Wang Wei, an alumnus of BJUT, made a speech about his career experience and thoughts.

At the commencement and degree-granting ceremony, President Nie Zuoren congratulated the graduates on their graduation and expressed his gratitude to all faculty, staff and the parents of graduates. The President reviewed the students’ excellent performance in celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, carrying out epidemic prevention and control, and commemorating the 60th anniversary of the founding of BJUT and the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. Prof. Nie hopes that the graduates can continue to follow and support the development of their alma mater and keep in mind BJUT’s motto, “Persistent Striving the Principle, Pursuit of Innovation the Path”.

The graduation and degree certificates were presented at the ceremony, including the best 100 graduates, the graduates supporting western construction, the excellent graduates in Beijing, the winners of excellent academic dissertations in BJUT, the doctoral degree recipients, and the foreign student graduates.

In 2021, a total of 5,975 BJUT students graduated or completed their undergraduate or graduate programs, among which, 243 students have obtained doctoral degrees; 2,383 have obtained master degrees; 3,339 have obtained bachelor degrees. Among class of 2021, 72 are international graduates; 28 students have obtained the award of Excellent Doctoral Dissertations; 303 have obtained the award of Excellent Master Dissertations; 110 have obtained the award of Excellent Graduation Designs (Theses) for Undergraduate Programs; 293 have been recognized as Excellent College Graduates in Beijing in 2021; and 608 have been recognized as Excellent Graduates of BJUT.
