· BJUT Convened the 2022 Science and Technology Conference

Beijing University of Technology (BJUT) convened the 2022 Science and Technology Conference on July 8. Attendees included leaders from departments of China's Ministry of Science and Technology, the Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission, Beijing Municipal Education Commission, Chaoyang District People's Government of Beijing Municipality, Huairou District People's Government of Beijing Municipality and the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (BDA). Leaders of BJUT and representatives of the University's faculty, staff, and students also attended the conference.

Lei Chaozi, director-general of the Department of Science, Technology and Informatization of the Ministry of Education, congratulated BJUT on its achievements in science and technology in recent years and expressed his hope that BJUT will continue to serve the national strategic needs and the socioeconomic development of Beijing.

Attendees expressed their congratulations on the convening of the conference and their hopes that BJUT will continue to give full play to its advantages in scientific research, the structures of its disciplines, and its talent cultivation, thereby continuing to make major contributions to the building of Beijing into an international science and technology innovation hub.

Since BJUT's Science and Technology Conference in 2018, the University has been making breakthroughs in terms of state-level scientific and technological awards, the commercialization of major scientific and technological achievements, and the publication of high-level papers. At the conference, awards were conferred on the teams and individuals who have made groundbreaking achievements.

In recent years, BJUT has delivered remarkable results in building scientific and technological platforms. The "R&D Base+" research model has gradually taken shape. On the conference, the attending leaders inaugurated scientific research platforms including Beijing Laboratory for Intelligent Environmental Protection, Engineering Research Center of Intelligent Perception and Autonomous Control by Ministry of Education, Provincial and Ministerial Co-constructed Capital Collaborative Innovation Center of Beijing Urban Transportation, Institute of Regional Carbon Neutrality and the other three.

Jiang Zeting, Secretary of the CPC BJUT Committee, pointed out that to embrace the 14th Five-Year Plan period, all BJUTers will need to achieve true consensus to properly undertake major strategies and tasks. Such collaborative development will require building and maintaining excellent teams capable of creating large platforms, solving key problems and producing significant results. This ecology of science, technology and innovation will allow the further development of BJUT's capacity to serve the needs of national and municipal development.

Nie Zuoren, President of BJUT, summarized in his keynote speech the University's achievements in science and technology since the implementation of the 13th Five-Year Plan. He analyzed the future challenges during the 14th Five-Year Plan period and clarified the goals and tasks in science and technology for the next five years, with BJUT integrating into the national and regional innovation system in a more active manner, playing its role in boosting the Nation's strength in scientific and technological innovation.

The conference also introduced the Action Plan for Scientific Research Innovation of Beijing University of Technology (2022-2024) and supporting documents detailing the upgrading of its science and technology systems.
