The 2022 United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) under the auspices the UN Economic and Social Council was held in New York from July 5 to July 15. Professor Pan Jiahua, a member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Director of the Institute of Eco-Civilization Studies of the Beijing University of Technology (BJUT), participated in the forum online. After the Forum, the President of the Economic and Social Council wrote to express gratitude to Prof. Pan for his inspiring messages and ideas which greatly contributed to the success of the meeting.
The forum brought together six Heads of State and Government and more than 130 Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers and Vice Ministers. The attendees shared views on how to reverse the negative impact of COVID-19 on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through recovery policies and how to direct countries towards realizing the vision of the 2030 Agenda. In-depth discussions were conducted on five SDGs, namely, quality education, gender equality, life below water, life on land, and partnerships for the goals. The Ministerial Declaration was adopted at the forum, reflecting the continued intense commitment of all participants to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
