The 12th Hiwin Doctoral Dissertation Award Ceremony, organized by the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, took place on May 13. Yan Zhaoyang's doctoral thesis, titled "Stability of weld pool in aluminum alloy plasma arc keyhole welding at varying positions and elimination of weld defects" won the 2022 Outstanding Award. Yan Zhaoyang received his Ph.D. from the Faculty of Materials and Manufacturing at Beijing University of Technology in 2021 (supervisor: Professor Chen Shujun). He is currently a post-doctoral fellow at the Institute of Intelligent Prototyping Equipment and System.
The "Hiwin Doctoral Dissertation Award"is jointly established by the China Mechanical Engineering Society and Hiwin Technologies Corp. As the sole national recognition for exceptional doctoral dissertations in the field of mechanical engineering, this award carries a significant influence in both academic and industrial circles.
The Institute of Intelligent Prototyping Equipment and System at BJUT has long been engaged in the research of advanced welding methods and the development of associated intelligent equipment. Professor Chen Shujun, a renowned academic leader in this field, has spearheaded significant breakthroughs in the key technologies required for the vertical-upvariable polarity plasma arckeyhole welding of large aluminum alloy cabin structures. This has been successfully applied to the welding and manufacturing of major national aerospace products. Under the guidance of Professor Chen Shujun, Yan Zhaoyang conducted in-depth and systematic research on the key technologies of plasma arc welding of complex curved welds. His work has resulted in a breakthrough in the area of stability and elimination of weld defects of weld pool in aluminum alloy plasma arc keyhole welding at varying positions.
