The Inauguration Ceremony for BJUT Shan-He-Wan-Gu Innovation Zone Has Been Held

As a result of collaborative efforts between the University and the local district, on October 16th, coinciding with the 63rd anniversary of the founding of Beijing University of Technology (BJUT), the inauguration meeting for the construction of the BJUT Shan-He-Wan-Gu Innovation Zone was held.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by a distinguished group of leaders and individuals, including You Jun, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee and the Secretary of the Working Committee of Beijing Municipal Education Commission; Yu Yingjie, Vice Mayor of Beijing; officials from relevant municipal bureaus; officials from Chaoyang District; leaders from various universities and research institutes; representatives from several companies; and leaders, faculty members, students, and alumni representatives from BJUT.

You Jun, on behalf of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee, the Working Committee of Beijing Municipal Education Commission and the CPC Beijing Municipal Education Commission, extended warm congratulations on the formal launch of the innovation zone and the 63rd anniversary of BJUT's establishment. He emphasized the significance of the collaborative effort between Chaoyang District and BJUT in creating the first innovation zone in the capital city jointly built by the government and the University. He highlighted the pivotal role this partnership will play in the development of the southern part of Chaoyang District, the establishment of an artificial intelligence innovation and development hub, the construction of a digital economy demonstration zone, and the overall development of the capital city in the new era. You Jun expressed the hope that BJUT will continue to pioneer new paths in discipline construction and reach new heights in scientific and technological innovation.

Yu Yingjie noted that BJUT, as a key municipal university, has continuously developed a solid foundation for innovation in recent years and created a unique model for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. Yu Yingjie also emphasized the significance of the collaborative construction of the innovation zone by Chaoyang District and BJUT. He explained that this represents the latest practical step in the ongoing efforts to build the Beijing International Science and Technology Innovation Center, with the aim of promoting the integrated development of education, science & technology, and talent in Beijing.

Jiang Zeting, Secretary of CPC BJUT Committee, said that since its establishment 63 years ago, BJUT has always been associated with the development requirements of the country and the capital city. He emphasized that BJUT and Chaoyang District will continue to deepen their collaborative efforts, making new and greater contributions to the high-quality development of Beijing.

Wen Xian, Secretary of the CPC Chaoyang District Committee, extended warm congratulations on behalf of the CPC Chaoyang District Committee and the District Government to the University. He emphasized Chaoyang District's commitment to fully leveraging the strengths and influence of BJUT in planning the higher education and scientific innovation park, as well as the industry-education integration base. He expressed the expectation that the collaboration between Chaoyang District and the University will yield even more outstanding results.

Nie Zuoren, President of BJUT, expressed heartfelt thanks to the leaders and the individuals from various sectors, who have long cared for and supported the University's development. He pointed out that the construction of the innovation zone is an important initiative, empowering the development of science and technology and the southern part of Chaoyang. He added that it is a crucial step for BJUT in its pursuit of creating a new paradigm for its becoming aworld-class university through high-quality development.

Wu Xiaojie, the Deputy Secretary of the CPC Chaoyang District Committee and Mayor of Chaoyang District, officially issued the "Supporting Opinions of the People's Government of Chaoyang District of Beijing Municipality on Promoting the Construction of the BJUT Shan-He-Wan-Gu Innovation Zone".

Qiao Junfei, Vice President of BJUT, announced the "Outline for the Construction of the BJUT Shan-He-Wan-Gu Innovation Zone".

The keys were handed over for the first batch of six projects scheduled for inauguration in the pilot area of the innovation zone.

Partner organizations or entities that collaborate with the innovation zone were awarded certificates of cooperation.

At the inauguration ceremony, the assembled leaders and guests collectively announced the first batch of projects to be established in the pilot area of the innovation zone. They also presented certificates to partner organizations and entities that are collaborating with the BJUT Shan-He-Wan-Gu Innovation Zone, marking the joint initiation of the construction of the Innovation Zone.

Following the inauguration ceremony, a high-end forum on artificial intelligence and industry was held. Sun Mingjun, the Director of the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute of Zhongguancun AI Space, delivered a presentation titled The "Steam Engine" of The Industrial Revolution in the Era of Intelligent Technology. Su Zhong, the Director of the Alibaba Cloud Intelligent Technology Strategy Research Office, gave a presentation titled Intelligent Technology Empowering the New Transformation of Digital Industries.

The BJUT Shan-He-Wan-Gu Innovation Zone is the first innovation zone in the capital city to have been jointly established by the district government and a Beijing municipal university. It is centered around BJUT's Pingleyuan Campus and radiates to the southern parts of Chaoyang District, including Jiulongshan, Shilihe/Xizhihe, Baiziwan, and Happy Valley areas. The goal is to build an innovation industrial belt and an innovative culture integration zone in the southern part of Chaoyang District. By 2025, the overall layout of the innovation zone is expected to take shape, with the establishment of the Shan-He-Wan-Gu Innovation Pilot Zone, focusing on artificial intelligence technology. It will become a regional pivot for the construction of the Beijing International Science and Technology Innovation Center. By 2030, in the southern part of Chaoyang District, an artificial intelligence industry innovation park will be established as a bridge head to effectively drive and expand the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. By 2035, several leading artificial intelligence-industry clusters will be established, forming an "innovation city" for new industries and will become an internationally influential hub for the artificial intelligence industry.
