Personal statement
Graduated from Harbin Institute of architecture and civil engineering (now Harbin Institute of Technology) in 1962, and granted Ph.D. degree in Osaka University of Japan in 1985. Earned Special allowance by the government in 1992, and named designer of Jilin Province in 1995, elected as Chinese Academician of Engineering in 1997. Served as Chief Engineer and Vice President in China Northeast Design & Research Institute of Municipal Engineering. Cultivated more than 30 doctoral students, more than 30 master students, and published more than 300 papers.
Main academic contributions and engineering achievements in Water Quality Science and Water Environment Recovery Engineering: (1) First proposed the theory and strategy of water environment recovery, and the theory and strategy of urban water health cycle. By 2007, completed the strategic planning of reclaimed water in Shenzhen, Dalian and other central cities. (2) First proposed Biological Manganese Fixation and Removal Mechanisms, developed biological manganese removal technology, solved the problem of manganese removal from groundwater for more than half a century, making China's research in this field leap to the international leading level. (3) First proposed the integrated process for reclamation of urban sewage in China, and designed the nation's first sewage recycling plant, which was named the national "8th Five-Year Programs" excellent demonstration projects. Started China's sewage recycling industry. (4) Presided over 36 major water supply and drainage system engineering designs, 92 large and medium-sized projects in Changchun and other cities, promoted the technology of water and wastewater engineering in cold region in China.
