Research Areas

Advanced joining technology including but not limited to

(1) Development of filler metals for fusion welding, wire arc additive manufacturing, brazing & soldering;

(2) Micro-nano scale joining and using nanomultilayer film;

(3) Low-temperature soldering of ceramic, glass to lightweight metals for electronic packaging;

(4) Laser brazing of superalloy and shape memory alloy for aerospace application;

(5) Solid state welding of dissimilar materials, including spot welding of AHSS, friction stir welding of Al to CFRP and diffusion bonding.

Personal Statement

Hong Li, Professor and doctoral supervisor, is Deputy Director of Institute of Lightweight Alloys and Manufacturing, Faculty of Materials and Manufacturing, Beijing University of Technology.

She received her doctor's degree of Material Processing Engineering in University of Science& Technology (USTB), Beijing in 2006. Then worked as a postdoctor in BJUT from 2006 to 2008. From 2012 to 2013, she carried out visiting scholar research funded by Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) in Institute of Materials Engineering, Dortmund University of Technology.

Now she is teaching postgraduate course "Fundamentals of Material Joining and Advanced Technology" and PhD student course "Metallurgy of 3D Additive manufacturing", which is funded BJUT Excellent Course Construction Project in 2019. She had conducted 24 research projects, including 3 intergovernmental S&T cooperation proposals, National Natural Science Foundation of China projects, etc. within 9 as principal investigators. She has published 4 monographs, more than 80 papers and 15 China invention patents.

She is very active in international academic cooperation. She has set up stable cooperation with Dortmund University of Technology, Colorado School of Mines, Warsaw University of Technology and Slovakia University of Technology. Some master students went there for short-term combined research and studies. Her motto is "Happy Materials Joining !"
