The BJUT's Modern Steel Structure research team has focused on key technologies of the innovation of modern large-span and high-rise industrialized prefabricated steel structure systems, new technologies for the complex processing and manufacturing of modern steel structures, monitoring the life-cycles of the health of steel structures, and the design and construction of large-scale complex steel structures.

Targeting the major needs of national steel structure engineering construction and the industrialization of steel structure housing production, the team has had world-leading innovative achievements in innovating and designing modern large-span and super tall steel structure systems in Beijing, industrializing prefabricated steel structure housing, and developing new technologies for processing and manufacturing modern steel structures. This has made the discipline of steel structures an important research direction in BJUT, contributing to the University's building of a national first-class civil engineering discipline.

The scientific research outcomes of the team have been successfully applied to major projects such as the venue for the badminton games of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Beijing Capital International Airport Terminal 3, and Beijing Daxing International Airport.
