In recent years, BJUT's Earthquake Resistance and Seismic Mitigation of Major Engineering Structures research team has mainly conducted in-depth research on earthquake resistance and seismic mitigation of urban infrastructure engineering structures and large-scale public buildings, as well as on urban resilience in terms of disaster prevention and mitigation. The team has also:
- Established the theory and technology of anti-seismic design of large underground structures, directly participating in solving the problems of the anti-seismic design of subway projects in Beijing, Taiyuan, Urumqi and other cities;
- Established the theory and technology of the anti-seismic design of highway and urban light rail elevated bridges, solving the problems of anti-seismic design of Beijing Xinshougang Bridge and more than 100 other major individual bridges in Beijing, Hebei Province, Guangdong Province, and other locations;
- Developed the theory and technology of the anti-seismic design of long-span spatial structures, which have been applied to more than 100 projects including the Kunming Airport Terminal;
- Developed an efficient anti-seismic system and key technologies for large complex high-rise composite structures, which have been used in the anti-seismic designs of more than 30 large-scale landmark building structures.
In the past three years, the team has led, or participated in, 8 national key projects which have won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, or been recognized as one of the key programs of the National Natural Science Foundation. Their research results have made important contributions to the anti-seismic safety of major transportation infrastructure projects and large public buildings in Beijing and across the country, producing significant social and economic benefits.
