BJUT Establishes the Institute of Technological Innovation for Urban Carbon Neutral Neutrality

On March 2, 2021, after investigation, BJUT decided to establish the Institute of Technological Innovation for Urban Carbon Neutral Neutrality, integrating advantageous resources from multiple disciplines including energy, environment, chemical engineering, materials, urban construction, and circular economy.

Over the years, BJUT has been striving for the goal it set to build a high-level research university, by vigorously promoting cross-discipline integration and collaborative innovation, and carrying on scientific and technological research to cater for the major needs of China and Beijing. Facing the frontier issues in the field of ecological environment, in 1999, BJUT established the College of Environmental and Energy Engineering, the first college in China that combines environmental science and technology, chemistry and chemical technology and energy science and technology; in 2005, BJUT established Circular Economy Research Institute; in 2016, BJUT established the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Green Development Research Institute, taking the lead in addressing major issues in the green development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province. Focusing on policies and technologies to achieve carbon neutrality goals, BJUT has carried out fruitful scientific researches and tackled key problems in energy and climate policy study, material life cycle assessment, greenhouse gas and environmental pollutant control, green building technology, and low-carbon environmentally friendly materials. The research fruits have laid a good foundation for the establishment of the institute.
