· BJUT Held Academic Seminar Themed on "Innovation of Urban Carbon Neutral Technology"

On March 24, BJUT held an academic seminar themed as “Innovation of Urban Carbon Neutral Technology”, which involves such disciplines as materials and manufacturing, urban construction, environment and energy, circular economy and chemical industry, etc.

Xie Hui, Secretary of the CPC Committee of BJUT, said that in recent years, under the guidance of the strategic demands of the state and capital, BJUT has vigorously advanced interdisciplinary integration and collaborative innovation, and laid a sound research foundation in the fields of energy and climate policy research, material life cycle assessment, control of greenhouse gases and environmental pollutants, green building technology, and low-carbon and environment-friendly materials. As a main force in scientific and technological innovation, BJUT is dedicated to providing strong technical support for the state to achieve the carbon neutral target as scheduled. He expressed the hope that faculties and students attending the seminar could take the seminar as an opportunity to pull wisdom together and turn research and discussions into achievements.

Nie Zuoren, President of BJUT and member of CAE, and Pan Jiahua, Director of Research Institute for Eco-civilization, professor of College of Economics & Management of BJUT and member of the Academic Division of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, delivered keynote reports respectively.

In his report, President Nie Zuoren analyzed the situation of carbon neutral at home and abroad and the current status of carbon emissions and emission reduction demands in China. He pointed out the technological innovation direction for carbon neutral, which is we should systematically incorporate such advanced thinking and technology as AI, digital economy and system integration into full life cycle process to create a green and low-carbon circular economy system in support of carbon neutral. He said that the purpose of the academic seminar is to tap into the academic advantages of multiple disciplines, motivate new thinking, explore new direction, resolve frontier common problems, strengthen the solidarity and collaboration between research groups inside BJUT, and provide strong support for the state and capital to meet their major strategic demands.

In this report, Professor Pan Jiahua introduced the process of carbon neutral globally, and elaborated on the strategic choice of China’s carbon neutral implementation path. He stressed the call for all-dimensional action to accomplish the strategic target of carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutral by 2060, which bears on the perpetual development of the Chinese nations and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

After the keynote reports, the Faculty of Materials and Manufacturing, the Faculty of Architecture, Civil and Transportation Engineering, and the Faculty of Environment and Life held academic seminars. In light of the academic themes and research areas, a total of 26 teachers shared research achievements and experience. Research directors, teachers and students in related fields participated in the academic seminar.
