· BJUT Held “Symposium on Selection of Carbon Neutrality Realization Path and Policy”

On March 28, the “Global Climate Change and China’s Action Plan (Beijing) Forum -Symposium on Selection of Carbon Neutrality Realization Path and Policy”, hosted by the Research Institute for Eco-civilization of BJUT and Yuejiang Academic Journal of Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology (NUIST) and co-hosted by the Research Institute of Climatic and Environmental Governance of NUIST was held on-line and off-line.

The opening ceremony was chaired by Prof. Pan Jiahua, member of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and director of the Research Institute for Eco-civilization of BJUT. More than 80 experts and scholars attended the symposium, including those from the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Tsinghua University, CASS and BJUT.

The symposium consisted of three sessions. The first session focused on the theme of “Energy Plan for Carbon Neutrality”. The second and third sessions focused on the theme of “Practice Path for Carbon Neutrality”. During the symposium, experts and scholars had free discussions, exchanged their views on different speeches and made pertinent comments under a friendly atmosphere.

At the end of the symposium, Prof. Pan Jiahua delivered a sum-up speech. Through the symposium, expertsand scholars reached following consensus: first, carbon neutrality represents a contribution, not cost, to China’s economy; second, as carbon neutrality is a challenge China faces during the development process, we should promote economic development and industrial transformation through carbon neutrality; third, China should carry out overall planning to support high quality development with industrial upgrading.
