BJUT Won Historic Breakthrough in the 7th China International College Students' "Internet +" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition

The 7th China College Students' "Internet+" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was held from October 12 to October 15 at Nanchang University. A total of 9.56 million students from 4,347 universities in 121 countries and regions signed up for this year's competition. They included students from world-renowned universities such as Harvard University, the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. Beijing University of Technology staged a stellar performance in history with 2 gold medals among 1,085 projects in the main competition stream. This is the best ever performance since the Beijing municipal universities participated the competition.

The two winning projects, "Superconducting 'Base' Industry - Autonomous High Temperature Superconducting Alloy Baseband Pioneer" from the Faculty of Materials and Manufacturing, and "Gainlaser Intelligent Graphics - the First Domestic, Global Leading Dual-Spindle Laser Scanner" from the Faculty of Information Technology, both were recommended from the provincial-level first-prize winners after qualification review, online evaluation, and on-site competition at national level.

Supporting student competition has been a university focus in undergraduate and graduate curricula. The entries have exhibited high scientific and technological content, strong innovation, and closeness to actual industry applications. The University plans to open up more courses on innovation and entrepreneurship in the future and employ more full-time and part-time faculty members to assist student innovation and entrepreneurship efforts.

At the final of the 7th China International College Students' "Internet +" Innovation and Entrepreneurship (Beijing Area) held on July 11-12, 2021, BJUT students pocketed 5 first prizes, 23 second prizes and 42 third prizes, ranking first among universities in Beijing. Moreover, BJUT was awarded "Excellent Organization University in Beijing Area". The five projects that won the first prize were all shortlisted for the championship.

BJUT's projects are high in technological value, innovative and reflect the latest industrial trends. The first-prize projects include:

"Autonomous High-temperature Superconducting Alloy Baseband Pioneer" (team members: Wu Xinyu, Ji Yaotang, Suo Cheng, etc; instructors: Suo Hongli, etc.);

"Changing the Global Landscape of Dual-axis Laser Scanners" (team members: Wang Zhiju, Chen Jiaping, Li Zilin, etc.; instructors: Jia Kebin, etc.);

"Intelligent Construction Site - Robotic Automation Welding Pioneer" (team members: Li Debao, Jiang Fan, Yan Zhaoyang, etc; instructor: Chen Shujun);

"Boundless Countryside - a Digital Beautiful Countryside Model with Facility Agriculture as the Core" (team members: Wang Yuchen, Li Kexin, Li Qingyang, etc.; instructor: Zhang Jian);

"Science and Technology Boost Rural Revitalization in Mining areas" (team members: Lu Mingqi, Li Qingyan, Wang Xufeng, etc.; instructors: Liu Min, etc.).

According to the schedule of the 7thChina International College Students' "Internet +" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the national final will be held in late October this year. BJUT will continue to facilitate the incubation and development of innovative and entrepreneurial projects and promote the application of achievements in scientific research.
