According to the Ministry of Education's approval and filing of 2021 undergraduate programs in general institutes of higher education, BJUT now offers two new undergraduate programs, in Welding Technology and Engineering, and Big Data Management and Application, plus three second-degree undergraduate programs in Sociology, Environmental Engineering, and Information Management and Information Systems.
The Welding Technology and Engineering program is based on the University's research strengths in materials science, and caters for the needs of strategic emerging industries in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and the country as a whole. Materials Science in BJUT is a national key discipline, and after nearly 60 years of development, the second-level discipline of Materials Processing Engineering has developed a number of distinctive and advanced research areas, including welding materials, intelligent welding equipment, advanced laser manufacturing techniques and additive manufacturing.
Big Data Management and Application is an interdisciplinary program, integrating Management, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. Relying on the doctoral program of Management Science and Engineering, this program will establish a knowledge system based on a multidisciplinary approach to "big data management and business analysis".
In recent years, BJUT has paid close attention to the development of emerging sectors of strategic importance, and has continued to optimize the structure and content of its disciplines and programs, integrating into regional economic and social development. The total number of undergraduate programs in the University has now reached 72. The approval of BJUT's new undergraduate programs has made the structure of its disciplines and programs more scientific and rational. This is of major importance for the improvement of the quality of education offered by the University, and its ability to serve society.
