· Secretary Jiang Zeting and President Nie Zuoren Delivered First Lecture for the Incoming Class of 2022

On August 30 and 31, Jiang Zeting, Secretary of the CPC BJUT Committee, and Nie Zuoren, President of BJUT, respectively addressed the incoming students of 2022 in their first lectures, on the themes of "Keep Up with the Times; Learn Knowledge to Support the Country" and "Shoulder the Responsibility of the Times in the Days of Your Youth and Passion".

Secretary Jiang welcomed the 2022-intake students and encouraged them to fully support the University's routine measures for COVID-19 containment. He hoped all new students to pursue first and foremost their academic achievement by making full use of the University's resources, widely consulting professors and seniors, and actively exchanging ideas with fellow students. While ensuring academic performance, they could actively engage in student associations and off-campus activities to broaden their vision and prepare themselves for their future life in society. Most importantly, they should aim high, aspiring to devote themselves to where the country and people need most and to tell China's stories well on the global stage one day when they graduate.

President Nie introduced BJUT's history, the status of development, and achievements in creating an excellent campus culture. He also presented the breakthroughs achieved by the University in recent years driven forward by its "Three-Step" strategy. President Nie said that generations of BJUTers had always been committed to serving China and Beijing's high-quality development in all aspects, socially, economically and culturally. Outstanding contributions have been made by BJUT in the building of Beijing into "four centers", the development of aerospace science and technology, the construction of large-scale scientific facilities, the organization of major events such as the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, and the realization of breakthroughs in key industrial technologies, such as those for carbon neutrality. President Nie hoped that the students, as BJUTers, would constantly strive for self-improvement, pursue innovation, broaden their global horizons and improve their comprehensive abilities, making their contribution to the country.

The students were highly inspired by the lectures, gaining a deeper understanding of the University and becoming more confident to become BJUTers of excellence in their future years. The annual event of "First Lecture" is a great opportunity for freshmen to better plan their university life and be passionate to strive for a new chapter of youth in the new era.
