Delegation of Germany Brandenburg Visited Beijing University of Technology

On the morning of September 11, Dietmar Woidke, Governor of Brandenburg, Germany, Ms. Britta Stark, President of the Parliament, and Mr. Clemens von Goetze, German Ambassador to China, visited Beijing University of Technology. Huang Kan, Deputy Director of Beijing Municipal Commission of Education, attended the activity and witnessed the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between Beijing University of Technology-Hasso Plattner Institute.

The Secretary of the Party Committee of the school Xie Hui, the President Liu Gonghui, the Vice President Wu Bin, the Vice President and Director of the Department of Informatics Qiao Junfei held a meeting with the Governor Voitke delegation, accompanied by the relevant persons in charge of International Exchange and Cooperation Office, the Department of Informatics, and the School of Environment and Energy Engineering. The meeting was presided over by the Vice President Wu Bin.

The Secretary Xie Hui introduced the general situation of Beijing University of Technology and the cooperation between the school and Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Engineering gGmbH. He said that opening schools, talents  developing schools and characteristic development are the three important development strategies of Beijing University of Technology. The school is committed to continuously improving its strength and international reputation through extensive and fruitful international exchange activities. In 2002, Beijing University of Technology and Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Engineering gGmbH signed the first cooperation agreement. After 16 years of exchange and cooperation, both sides have developed into one of the most important partners of each other and have also jointly cultivated a large number of outstanding talents in the field of information technology. He hopes that the two universities can continue to deepen cooperation, become a bridge for Sino-German friendship, and make greater contributions to strengthening cooperation and friendly exchanges in the fields of Sino-German culture, science and technology, economy and trade!

In his speech, the Deputy Director Huang Kan pointed out that under the framework of Sino-German education cooperation, Beijing Municipal Education Commission has always been committed to continuously promoting more in-depth pragmatic cooperation between Beijing universities and foreign top universities and scientific research institution, and building a group of international cooperation innovation platforms with higher research level and strength. He hopes that the renewal of this visit and the agreement can further strengthen exchanges and pragmatic cooperation between the two universities, the two cities and even the two countries in education and science and technology to better serve the economic and social development of Beijing.

The Ambassador Clemens von Goetze expressed his gratitude for the warm reception of Beijing University of Technology and appreciation for the sincere cooperation and achievements of the two universities. And he expressed his willingness to actively promote the all-round in-depth cooperation between German universities and Chinese universities, especially with Beijing University of Technology.

Both China and Germany reviewed the “Internet Bridge” project in 16 years. The “Internet Bridge” is a demonstrative result of in-depth cooperation between Sino-German higher education institutions in terms of quality teaching, academic resources, talent advantages and exchanges of Chinese and Western advanced education systems and methods, realizing the sharing of quality education resources between the two universities and improving talent training and technological innovation level.

The President Liu Gonghui and the Dean Christoph Meinel renewed the Memorandum of Cooperation between the two universities on behalf of both sides, which will further consolidate and better meet the needs of the educational development of the two countries and promote the common development of the universities of both sides. The extensive and in-depth cooperation between Beijing University of Technology and Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Engineering gGmbH will promote exchanges and cooperation between universities and other universities and research institutions in Brandenburg, and accelerate the process of building world-class universities and world-class disciplines.

In his special speech, the Governor Dietmar Woidke introduced the advantages of Brandenburg in the collection of scientific research resources and the importance that Germany attaches to international cooperation and informatization. He spoke highly of the cooperation achievements between Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Engineering gGmbH and Beijing University of Technology for many years, and hopes that the renewal of the cooperation framework agreement can promote a better future for the two universities.

The Secretary Xie Hui gave the Governor Dietmar Woidke a “Hammer of Beijing University of Technology” that symbolizes thoroughly tempered and excelsior “craftsmanship spirit” of the students of Beijing University of Technology on behalf of the school to express his gratitude, for which the Governor Dietmar Woidke accepted with joy. He expressed the hope that Beijing University of Technology and higher educational institutions in Brandenburg can further strengthen their in-depth cooperation in talent cultivation and scientific research.

In his speech, the President Liu Gonghui said that the re-renewal of the cooperation agreement with Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Engineering gGmbH is an important milestone in the history of Beijing University of Technology. The “Internet Bridge” project launched 16 years ago has become the beginning of a deep friendship between the two universities, and has promoted the expansion of international vision and international exchanges of the teachers and students of Beijing University of Technology. He hopes that in the future, both sides can further expand and deepen cooperation in such fields as international exchanges of teachers and students, joint development of scientific research cooperation platforms, joint teaching training, enrich and expand the exchanges and cooperation between universities and scientific research institution in Beijing University of Technology, Brandenburg and even other regions of Germany, and jointly cultivate outstanding innovative talents with international views.

After the meeting, the delegation visited Beijing Key Laboratory for Regional Atmospheric Combined Pollution Prevention and Control and Beijing Key Laboratory for Multimedia and Intelligent Software Technology to understand the main achievements in scientific research of Beijing University of Technology in air pollution prevention, urban traffic management and intelligent decision-making in Beijing and surrounding areas.

Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Engineering gGmbH, HPI for short, is the Center of Excellence in the IT field of German university in Potsdam, the capital of Brandenburg, Germany. At present, there are more than 500 undergraduate and master students majoring in the HPI “Information Technology Systems Engineering”, and more than 150 doctoral candidates majoring in the “Computer Science”. In the CHE-Ranking, HPI has been among the top group (Top 5) in the field of information technology for many years, especially the master program in the evaluation, which has ranked first.
