The opening ceremony of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics was impressive and creative. Yang Rong, a BJUT faculty member, was responsible for organizing the compulsory routines for the opening ceremony, which included the athletes' entry into the National Stadium, raising the Olympic flag, singing the Olympic Anthem and lighting the Olympic flame. As for how to make these compulsory routines more impressive, Yang Rong and his team tried their best to improve day and night in an effort to bring the creativity of Chief Director Zhang Yimou to the fullest.
Yang Rong has been working at BJUT since he graduated in 1998. He says "Telling Chinese stories to the world means telling them in a way everyone, not just the Chinese, can understand; the best way of doing this is by connecting peoples' hearts." Yang strives to open eyesight for his students, to plant the seeds of art in their hearts, encouraging them to start a lifelong artistic dream.
At the opening ceremony of Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, each participating delegation had a "small snowflake" inscribed with its name. All these small snowflakes" eventually came together to form a "giant snowflake", creating a totally new form of main torch for the Winter Olympics.
Four of these small snowflakes were held aloft into the National Stadium by BJUT's students. Chang Xiangyu, Zou Chang, Liu Zhengzheng and Jiang Suping led the athletes in by holding the placards of Team Japan, Team ROC, Team Austria and Team Germany respectively. For this moment, the four girls spent nearly 500 hours practicing in more than 30 rehearsals. To shine on stage, they went through strict selection process and hard training, with constant support from the University throughout.
