Robot Engineering

Objectives:

Robot Engineering is a new engineering specialty based on automation-the strong national first-class specialty and Beijing branded specialty-which is deeply integrated with automation, computer, machinery, electronics, especially artificial intelligence,targeting at the international scientific and technological frontier and the major strategic nation-building needs. It aims to cultivate high-quality innovative talents who are proficient in basic theory and professional knowledge of robots, healthy in the physical body, sound in character, extensive and thorough in the foundation and who are with outstanding potential, innovative thinking, global vision and social responsibility for the development of the innovative country and innovative city of Bejing.

Curriculum:

The specialty of Robot Engineering major has constructed a four-in-one innovative talent training system, including “industry, university, research and competition”. With the tutorial system, this specialty helps to cultivate each students’ ability in innovative practice throughout the whole process. The student of this major mainly studies the Fundamental Principles of Robots, Principles of Automatic Control, Microcomputer Principles and Interface Technology, Robot Perception Technology, Robot Mechanism Design, Robot Dynamics and Control, Machine Learning and Intelligent Optimization, Robot Intelligent Interaction Technology, Information Communication Network and Application and Artificial Intelligence Technology. They will also research intelligent perception, system design, intelligent control, intelligent interaction mode and other scientific issues of intelligent robots.

The enrollment and training program of robotics engineering specialty includes: 3+1 Double Training Program, including studying for the top-notch program at Tsinghua University for 3 years and return to Beijing University of Technology in the 4th year; 3+1+1 Program, where senior students can study at State University of New York at Buffalo and be given priority to be admitted when they apply for the UB master’s degree in the 5th year; 3+1 Program, excellent senior students can study at Miguel University of technology in Finland and obtain double diploma; 2+2 Program where excellent junior students can study at the University Of Dundee in the UK and obtain a double diploma.

Career:

Robot Engineering can prepare students with extensive employment and strong resilience, the important characteristics of the new interdisciplinary engineering major. The graduates of this major will be engaged in the engineering design, technology development, system operation management and decision-making, enterprise management, scientific research and other related fields of robotics and artificial intelligence in universities, scientific research institutes, administrative institutions, financial institutions, high-tech companies and other departments.

In light of the rapid growth of the intelligent robot industry, which has become a new growth of the global economy, China and Beijing regard the intelligent robot industry as the leading industry in response to a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation. There is a huge gap of R &D talents in the intelligent robot industry, which provides ample employments for graduates of this specialty.
