Financial Economics (Sino-foreign joint program)

Objective:

The major is jointly run by BJUT and UCD.UCD Smurfit Business School is Ireland’s leading business school. Students can enjoy the high-quality education and teaching resources of both universities.

Under the background of global economic integration and ever-deepening reforms of China's economy and finance, the major aims to cultivate interdisciplinary talents with extensive literacy of social sciences in the financial field who can adapt to the needs of modern social economic and financial development. Familiar with quantitative analysis skills and professional knowledge of currency, finance, credit, banking, securities and financial markets, they master basic theoretical knowledge such as modern economics and finance and have a good command of frontier theories and development of the subject. They excellent abilities of English expression, interpersonal communication, team work and computer application.

In order to step up students' study in professional theory and deepen their understanding of global economic activities and financial markets, the major integrates core courses in the financial field based on traditional economics to help students havea solid foundation of economic theory and cutting-edge financial skills in quantitative analysis. After completing their studies, students can meet the requirements of domestic and foreign financial institutions, government departments and non-financial enterprises and public institutions to interdisciplinary financial talents of high quality. They can also pursue further education.

Curriculum:

The major is a four-year undergraduate program adopting an "advanced cultivation model", that is, to define staged cultivation goals and academic standards for each academic year to help students reasonably plan their learning processes. On professional training, UCD is responsible for teaching content arrangement and quality monitoring. UCD and BJUT select high-level teachers to participate in teaching and about 70% of professional courses would be taught by UCD selected teachers. Course assessment methods and score evaluation are implemented in terms of UCD standards on undergraduate teaching and academic evaluation, which provides students with express to their overseas further studies.

Core courses: Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Advanced Mathematics, Probability and Mathematical Statistics, Econometrics, Financial Optimization Methods, Principles of Finance, Derivatives and Risk Management, Industrial Economics, Behavioral Economics, Economics of International Trade, Accounting, Business Finance, Investment and Portfolio Management.

Career:

Graduates of the major may be stock traders, fund managers, certified public accountants (CPA), chartered financial analysts (CFA), chartered wealth managers (CWM), strategy and management consultants. Qualified graduates would have opportunities to develop their careers in world-class companies in the fields of commercial banks, investment banks, funds, insurance, accounting firms, business finance, project management consulting.

If you intend to continue your graduate studies, your credentials will be recognised by universities and business schools in Europe and the US. It provides an excellent platform for undergraduates to apply for master's programs at home and abroad. According to the survey of graduates in the past years, postgraduate-program-applying and recommendation universities at home include the Central University of Finance and Economics, Institute of Finance and Banking in Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Beijing Normal University and many other domestic institutions with world-class universities and disciplines. The proportion of study abroad is nearly 70%, around 58% of which study in the top 100 universities in the QS ranking including University College London, Johns Hopkins University in the US, Columbia University, The Australian National University, The University of Sydney and other world-renowned universities.
