Objective:
Biomedical Engineering uses modern engineering technology to detect and analyze various signals of the human body to obtain physiological and pathological information, assist medical diagnosis, or treat diseases by using the interaction effect produced by certain physical factors and organisms.
This major cultivates applied interdisciplinary talents who are equipped with basic knowledge of Biology and Medicine, theoretical knowledge and experimental skills of Medical Electronic Information Technology, Biomechanics and biological information related to Biomedical Engineering, understand the working principle, operation specifications and related laws and regulations of modern medical devices.
The talents should be good at independent learning and cooperative communication, have strong engineering practice ability with international vision, innovative and professional qualities. This program specially adapts to the national development needs of "Made in China 2025" and trains students' basic knowledge and skills in Biomedicine and high-end medical equipment (Mobile Medicine, Biological 3D Printing, Tissue Engineering, Vascular Stent, Artificial Heart, Personalized Medicine and Precision Medicine).

This program is Beijing’s specialty discipline; has the right to confer bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctor’s degree, and has a post-doctoral mobile station for Biomedical Engineering; has enriched teachers resources and other good conditions for running schools; has established a joint training base for postgraduate students and an undergraduate internship base with more than ten enterprises in Beijing; adopts a “3+2” model to jointly train biomedical engineering undergraduates with Arizona State University in the United States graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Beijing University of Technology and a master’s degree from Arizona State University in the United States.
Many graduates go abroad for further study every year, and the rate of graduate school admissions reaches 40%. Lots of graduates of this program work for first-class large hospitals and medical equipment enterprises in Beijing. The employment rate of graduates in this major is very high.

Main courses of this major consist of four categories: Biology and Medicine Courses, Electronic, Instrument and Information Course, Biomechanics Courses; Biology Information Courses. Main courses include Anatomy and Physiology, C Language Programming (Bilingual), Principle and Application of Single Chip Microcomputer, Analog/Digital Electronic Technology, Biomechanics Foundation (Bilingual), Biomedical Signal Processing, Medical Image Processing, Biomedical Measurement and Sensors, Biomedical Electronics, Modern Medical Equipment, and Medical Device Regulations.
